NCAA South: Jayhawks, UConn, Canes, Shockers Advance To Round of 32

Four games were played in the opening round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's South Regional.

Two games were played at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa:

In the opener, Svi Mykhailiuk scored a career-high 23 points while Perry Ellis added 21 as the top-seeded Kansas Jayhawks (31-4; they're the tournament's top overall seed) impeached the Austin Peay Governors (18-18) 105-79.

Josh Robinson paced the sixteenth-seeded Governors with 24 points.

In the second contest, Rodney Purvis scored 19 points while Daniel Hamilton added 17 (to go with his 10 rebounds) as the ninth-seeded Connecticut Huskies (25-10) held off the eighth-seeded Colorado Buffaloes (22-12) 74-67.

Josh Scott led the Buffaloes with 23 points while grabbing eleven rebounds.



Two more games took place at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

In the opener, Angel Rodriguez scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Sheldon McClellan added 20 points as the third-seeded Miami Hurricanes (26-7) held off 14th-seeded Buffalo (20-15) 79-72.

Nick Perkins scored 20 points off the bench to pace the Bulls.

In the nightcap, Fred VanVleet scored 16 points while Ron Baker added 13 as the #11-seeded Wichita State Shockers (26-8) upended the #6-seeded Arizona Wildcats (25-9) 65-55.
