NCAA East: Tar Heels, Hoosiers, Kentucky, Providence Advance To Round of 32

The East Regional of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament commenced on Thursday with four games.

Two of the games were contested at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.

In the opener, Brice Johnson scored 18 points as the top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels (29-6) defeated the sixteenth-seeded Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (21-14) 83-67.

In the nightcap, Rodney Bullock's layup (two of his 16 points---which went with his ten rebounds) with 1.5 seconds remaining lifted ninth-seeded Providence (24-10) to a 70-69 victory over the eighth-seeded Southern California Trojans (21-13).

Ben Bentil topped the Friars with 19 points.

Two more games were played at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.

In the opener, Yogi Ferrell scored 20 points as the fifth-seeded Indiana Hoosiers (26-7) proved too much for the 12th-seeded UT-Chattanooga Moccasins (29-6) 99-74, as five players scored in double figures.

In the nightcap, Jamal Murray scored 19 points as the fourth-seeded Kentucky Wildcats (27-8), with five players scoring in double figures, made mincemeat of the 13th-seeded Stony Brook Seawolves (26-7) 85-57, ruining the upstarts' NCAA Tournament debut.

Jameel Warney paced the Seawolves with 23 points to go with his 15 rebounds.
