Ducks Outlast Bulldogs In Battle Of Unbeatens

At Eugene, Oregon:

Dillon Brooks scored 21 points and grabbed ten rebounds on Monday as the Oregon Ducks (#15 in the Associated Press poll, #16 in the USA Today/Coaches rankings; 6-0) held off the visiting Fresno State Bulldogs (5-1) 78-73.

Men's College Hoops: Ducks Continue Climb Up Both Polls

The Oregon Ducks climbed up six spots to #15 in the latest Associated Press men's college basketball poll that was released on Monday.

The Ducks also moved up in the USA Today/Coaches poll, climbing up seven spots to #16.

As has been the case all season, there was no support in either poll for any of the Beaver State's three other men's Division I basketball teams.

MLS Cup Playoffs: It's Timbers Vs. Crew For Marbles (And CONCACAF Champions League Berth) In Columbus Next Sunday

Both conference finals in the MLS Cup Playoffs were concluded on Sunday.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

At Harrison, New Jersey:

Despite dropping a 1-0  game-two road decision to the New York Red Bulls, the Columbus Crew  won their two-game Eastern Conference Final 2-0 on aggregate.



WESTERN CONFERENCE:

At Frisco, Texas:

Fanendo Adi (54') and Lucus Melano (90'+5) each scored a goal as the Portland Timbers gained a 2-2 game-two road draw with FC Dallas and advanced to their first-ever MLS Cup Final by winning their two-match Western Conference Final series with the Hoops 5-3 on aggregate.



The Portland Timbers will visit the Columbus Crew in next Sunday's MLS Cup Final (1:00 PM Pacific Time, ESPN).

The winner will qualify for the group stage of the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League.

ESKIMOS OVERTAKE GRITTY REDBLACKS, WIN 103RD GREY CUP, THEIR 14TH

At Winnipeg, Manitoba:

Quarterback Mike Reilly threw touchdown passes to Adarius Bowman and Akeem Shavers while Jordan Lynch scored the game-winning major score with 3:22 remaining in regulation on Sunday as the Edmonton Eskimos came back and won the 103rd Grey Cup Final 26-20 over the Ottawa REDBLACKS, ruining the second-year expansion club's bid to win the Capital city's first Canadian Football League crown since 1976, when the old Rough Riders defeated Saskatchewan for the title.

This championship marks the fourteenth such title for the Eskimos.

Carson Palmer Leads Cardinals Past Niners

At Santa Clara, California:

Quarterback Carson Palmer ran eight yards for the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter on Sunday as the Arizona Cardinals (9-2) defeated the San Francisco 49ers (3-8) 19-13 on the road to maintain their three-game lead atop the NFC's Western Division.

Ducks Continue Climb In Both Polls

After their Civil War victory over Oregon State, the Oregon Ducks climbed up in both the Associated Press (up three spots to #15) and USA Today/Amway Coaches (up two spots to #16) college football polls.

Anthony Beane and Sean O'Brien each scored 18 points on Saturday while Armon Fletcher delivered the game-winning shot as the Southern Illinois Salukis (6-1) defeated the Portland Pilots (3-4) 80-79 in the third-place game in the Corpus Christi Classic.

At Corpus Christi, Texas:

Gain Clavell scored 21 points on Friday while Antwan Scott added 17 as the Colorado State Rams (5-0) defeated the Portland Pilots (3-3) 90-74 in a semifinal contest in the Corpus Christi Coastal Classic.

Ducks Make It Eight Civil War Wins In A Row After Holding Off Beavers; OSU Goes Winless In Conference Play

At Eugene, Oregon:

Quarterback Vernon Adams, Jr. threw three touchdown passes to Bralon Addison as the Oregon Ducks (#17 in the College Football Playoff rankings; 9-3 overall, 7-2 in Pac-12 play) held off several furious comeback attempts by the visiting Oregon State Beavers (2-10, 0-9) before capturing the 119th Civil War Game 52-42, their sixth win in a row and eighth straight in this series.

The Beavers, who trailed by 24 points at halftime but twice closed to within three points of the Ducks in the fourth quarter,  suffered their ninth straight loss (their longest losing streak since 1995) and closed out their first winless in-conference campaign since 1997.

Marqueze Coleman scored 21 points on Wednesday night as the Nevada Wolf Pack (4-1) held off the visiting Portland State Vikings (2-2) 76-73.  Cameron Forte paced the Vikings with 23 points while grabbing nine rebounds.

Ducks Too Much For Red Wolves

At Eugene, Oregon:

Dwayne Benjamin scored 25 points on Wednesday while Chris Boucher added 17 to go with a school-record nine blocks as the Oregon Ducks (#21 in the Associated Press poll, #23 in the USA Today/Coaches rankings; 5-0 overall) dominated the visiting Arkansas State Red Wolves (2-3) 91-68, despite 22 points from the visitors' Devin Carter.

At Portland, Oregon:

D'Marques Tyson scored 20 points (making six of his team's 15 three-pointers) on Tuesday as the Portland Pilots (3-2), with five players scoring in double-figures,  demolished the visiting Alcorn State Braves (0-3) 97-65.  Patrick Onwenu was a bright spot for the Braves as he scored 20 points (on 7-of-10 shooting) and grabbed eight rebounds.

Balanced Attack Sends Crusaders Past Beavers In Corvallis

At Corvallis, Oregon:

Shane Hammink and Tevonn Walker each scored 15 points while Alec Peters added 11 points to go along with his 12 rebounds on Tuesday night as the Valparaiso Crusaders (6-1) knocked off the Oregon State Beavers (4-1) 63-57 on the road, spoiling a 25-point, 11-rebound performance from the Beavers' Gary Payton II (he was the lone OSU-er to score in double-figures).

CFP Rankings: Sooners, Hawkeyes Move To Top Four; Fighting Irish, Buckeyes Displaced; Ducks Climb Six Places To #17

The Clemson Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide kept the top two slots in the College Football Playoff rankings that were released on Tuesday with the Oklahoma Sooners and Iowa Hawkeyes moving to third and fourth place respectively, replacing Ohio State (who fell to #8) and Notre Dame (now at #6), with Michigan State now at #5.

The Stanford Cardinal, at #9, are the highest ranked Pac-12 team in the rankings, with the Oregon Ducks (who host the Civil War Game against the Oregon State Beavers on Friday) climbing up six spots to #17.  The Washington State Cougars are at #20 and the UCLA Bruins at #22.

MLS Cup Playoffs: Crew, Timbers Open Conference Finals With Series-Opening Home Wins

Both conference finals in the Major League Soccer playoffs commenced on Sunday.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

At Columbus, Ohio:

Jusin Meram (1') and Kei Kamara (85') provided the scoring as the Columbus Crew blanked the visiting New York Red Bulls 2-0 in the opening game of the Eastern Conference Final.  The series will conclude next Sunday in Harrison, New Jersey (4:30 PM Pacific Time, Fox Sports 1).



WESTERN CONFERENCE:

At Portland, Oregon:

Liam Ridgewell (23'), Dairon Asprilla (53'), and Nat Borchers (90'+1) each scored a goal as the Portland Timbers held off FC Dallas 3-1 in the opening match of the Western Conference Final at home.  David Texeira scored for the Hoops in the 62nd minute.  The series will be wrapped up next Sunday at Frisco, Texas (2:00 PM Pacific Time, ESPN).

Men's College Hoops: Ducks Climb Up AP Poll, Make Coaches Rankings

The Oregon Ducks climbed four spots to #21 in the Associated Press men's college basketball polls and reached the USA Today/Coaches rankings at #23.

Despite getting off to a similar start as the Ducks----4-0----the Oregon State Beavers still received the same amount of support in both polls as are the two Portland schools, nil.

At Eugene, Oregon:

Alec Wintering scored 17 points on Sunday as the Portland Pilots dominated the Abilene Christian Wildcats 87-57 in the opening round of the Corpus Christi Coastal Classic.

Isaiah Pineiro scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds on Sunday as the Portland State Vikings (2-1) defeated the Texas-Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros (1-3) 79-61 on the road.

Seahawks Cuff And Stuff Visiting Niners

At Seattle:

Thomas Rawls, in place of the absent Marshawn Lynch,  ran for 209 yards and scored two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) on Sunday as the Seattle Seahawks (5-5) downed the visiting San Francisco 49ers (3-7) 29-13.

Grey Cup Playoffs: REDBLACKS Knock Out Ti-Cats, Become First Ottawa Club To Reach Final Since '81; Eskimoes Outlast Stampeders For Trip To Winnipeg

Both divisional finals in the Canadian Football League's Grey Cup Playoffs were contested on Sunday.

EAST DIVISION FINAL:

At Ottawa:

The Ottawa REDBLACKS, a club playing in only their second season of existence, knocked off the visiting Hamilton Tiger-Cats 35-28 to become the first club from the Canadian capital city since 1981 (when the Ottawa Rough Riders lost to the Edmonton Eskimos 26-23 at Montreal) to play in the Grey Cup Final.

1976 was the last time an Ottawa club won the Grey Cup Final when the Ottawa Rough Riders defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 23-20 in Toronto for their ninth and final CFL crown.

Greg Ellingston caught a 93-yard touchdown pass with less than two remaining to lift the REDBLACKS to their historic divisional final victory.



WEST DIVISION FINAL:

At Edmonton, Alberta

Quarterback Mike Reilly threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more as the Edmonton Eskimos defeated the visiting Calgary Stampeders 45-31 to win the West Division Final and a berth in next Sunday's Grey Cup Final in Winnipeg against Ottawa.

Ducks Rank #18 In AP, Coaches Polls

After their Saturday victory over visiting USC, the Oregon Ducks climbed up to #18 in both the Associated Press (up five spots) and USA Today/Amway Coaches polls (up four).

The Ducks host Oregon State in the annual Civil War Game this coming Friday.

Huskies Maul Feckless Beavers In Corvallis

At Corvallis, Oregon:

Quarterback Jake Browning threw for four touchdowns on Saturday as the Washington Huskies (5-6), who scored on their first six possessions, kept their shot at bowl eligibility alive with a 52-7 fanny-kicking of the sagging Oregon State Beavers (2-9) on the road.

The defeat was the Beavers' eighth in a row.

Ducks Overpower Visiting Trojans; Pac-12 North Title Hopes Dashed By Stanford Win

At Eugene, Oregon:

Vernon Adams, Jr. threw for 407 yards and six touchdowns on Saturday as the Oregon Ducks (#23 in the College Football Playoff rankings; 8-3 overall, 6-2 in Pac-12 play) overpowered the visiting Southern California Trojans; #24 in CFP rakings; 7-4, 5-3) 48-28.

Despite the Ducks' fifth straight victory, their shot at winning the Pac-12's North Division title ended with Stanford's home win Saturday night over California-Berkeley.

Gary Payton II scored 21 points on Saturday as the Oregon State Beavers (4-0) defeated the UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos (1-2) 71-59 on the road.

Ducks Make College Football Playoff Rankings; Top Four Remains The Same With Iowa At #5

The Clemson Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish remained in the same exact order as was the case last week in the latest College Football Rankings that were released on Tuesday.  The Iowa Hawkeyes remained in the #5 spot, followed by the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

The Stanford Cardinal, at #11, are the highest ranked Pac-12 team in the rankings with the Utah Runnin' Utes at #13 as both suffered big defeats this past Saturday.

At Eugene, Oregon:

Chris Boucher and Elgin Cook each scored 15 points as the Oregon Ducks (#25 in the Associated Press poll; 2-0) knocked off the visiting Baylor Bears (#20 AP, #21 in the USA Today/Coaches poll; 1-1) 74-67 on Monday night offsetting 22 points from the Bears' Al Freeman.

Men's College Hoops: Ducks Reach AP Poll At #25

In the latest Associated Press men's college basketball poll that was released on Monday, the Oregon Ducks entered it for the first time this season at #25.  While not in the current USA Today/Coaches rakings, the Ducks have support and they would be ranked #27.

The Beaver State's three other men's Division I basketball programs all wound up without support in both polls.

The Canadian Football League's Grey Cup Playoffs commenced on Sunday with two games.

EASTERN DIVISION:

At Hamilton, Ontario:

Justin Medlock kicked a 47-yard field goal with no time remaining as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats held off the visiting Toronto Argonauts 25-22 in an Eastern Division semifinal playoff.

The Ti-Cats will visit the Ottawa REDBLACKS in the East Division Final next Sunday.



WESTERN DIVISION:

Bo Levi Mitchell threw two touchdown passes to Eric Rogers as the Calgary Stampeders smothered the visiting British Columbia Lions 35-9 in the Western Division semifinal playoff.

Next Sunday, the Stampeders will visit the Edmonton Eskimos in the Western Division Final.

Quarterback Jared Goff threw for 453 yards and six touchdowns on Saturday night as the California Golden Bears (6-4 overall, 3-4 in Pac-12 play) clinched bowl eligibility with a 54-24 home mauling of the struggling Oregon State Beavers (2-8, 0-7), who have now dropped seven straight contests.  The Bears compiled a school single-game record of 760 yards of totals offense. 

Ducks Knock Off Stanford On Road, Keep Pac-12 North Division Title Hopes Alive

At Palo Alto, California:

Vernon Adams, Jr. played an economical game on Saturday by completing 10 of 12 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns (47 yards to Darren Carrington and 49 yards to Taj Griffin) while Charles Nelson ran 75 yards for another score as the Oregon Ducks (7-3 overall, 5-2 in Pac-12 play) knocked off the Stanford Cardinal (#7 in the College Football Playoff rankings and both the Associated Press and USA Today/Amway Coaches polls; 8-2, 7-1) 38-36 on the road and kept their flickering hopes of winning the Pac-12 North Division title and mortally wounded the Cardinal's chances of reaching the College Football Playoff.

Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame Make Up College Football Playoff Rankings' Top Four; Iowa At Number Five

In the second College Football Playoff rankings that were released on Tuesday, Clemson remained in the #1 spot, with Alabama ranked second (up two from last week), Ohio State at #3 (as was the case last week), and Notre Dame moving up to #4 (up a spot from last week).  Iowa climbed up four places to #5.  At #7 (up four spots from last week),  the Stanford Cardinal find themselves the highest-ranked Pac-12 team, with Utah at #10 (up two).

Blaine Gabbert Leads Niners Past Falcons

At Santa Clara, California:

The San Francisco 49ers (3-6) held off the visiting Atlanta Falcons (6-3) 17-16 on Sunday.  In his first start in a 49ers uniform, quarterback Blaine Gabbert threw two second-quarter touchdown passes, both to tight end Garrett Celek (one and eleven yards).

The second round of the Major League Soccer Playoffs concluded with four games on Sunday.

Bradley Wright-Phillips scored the only goal of the match in the second minute of second-half stoppage time as the New York Red Bulls scored a second 1-0 victory over DC United and won their two-game conference semifinal series 2-0 on aggregate.

At Columbus, Ohio:

Kai Kamara scored twice (4', 111') as the Columbus Crew, after taking game two of their series with the Montreal Impact, 2-1 in regulation to square their two-match conference semifinal series at 3-3 on aggregate, won the series 4-3 on aggregate.  Ethan Findlay scored for the Crew in the 77th minute to force overtime.



WESTERN CONFERENCE:

At Frisco, Texas:

With the two-game conference semifinal series score at 3-3 on aggregate after regulation of the second game, and after 30 scoreless overtime minutes, Mauro Diaz, Ryan Hollingshead, Tesho Akindele, and Walker Zimmerman (whose goal in the opening minute of second-half stoppage time forced overtime) all converted their spot kicks as FC Dallas won the penalty-kick shootout 4-2 over the visiting Seattle Sounders.  Hoops goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez saved two shots during the shootout.

At Vancouver, British Columbia:

Fenando Adi (31') and Diego Chara (90'+4) each scored a goal as the Portland Timbers knocked out the hosts Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0, both in game two and on aggregate for the two-game conference semifinal series.

Riders Close Out Long Season With OT Road Win Over Alouettes

At Montreal:

In the Canadian Football League season finale for both clubs, quarterback Brett Smith completed 14 of 18 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns as the Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-15) battled back and knocked off the Montreal Alouettes (6-12) 30-24 in overtime on Sunday.

This was the final game of the CFL's 2015 regular season.

Ducks Have Support In Coaches' Poll

Though the Oregon Ducks still came up empty in getting support in the Associated Press college football poll that was released on Sunday, they still garnered support in the USA Today/Amway Coaches rankings, where they would be ranked #29.

The Ducks clinched bowl eligibility by defeating visiting California on Saturday night and kept their flickering hopes of winning the Pac-12 Conference's North Division title alive.

At Eugene, Oregon:
Quarterback Vernon Adams, Jr. threw for 300 yards and four touchdowns (two of them to Bralon Addison) on Saturday night while running back Royce Freeman gained 180 yards on 29 carries as the Oregon Ducks (6-3 overall, 4-2 in Pac-12 play) maintained their slim shot at winning the Pac-12 North Division title while becoming bowl eligible with their 44-28 victory over the California Golden Bears (5-4, 2-4).

The Ducks gained a school record 777 yards in total offense.

The win was Oregon's seventh consecutive over Cal-Berkeley.

Bruins Maul Hapless Beavers

At Corvallis:

Quarterback Josh Rosen completed 22 of 33 passes for 333 yards and a pair of touchdowns thrown to Thomas Duarte on Saturday as the UCLA Bruins (# 23 in the College Football Playoff rankings, #22 in both the Associated Press and USA Today/Amway Coaches' polls; 7-2 overall, 4-2 in Pac-12 play) demolished the visiting Oregon State Beavers (2-7, 0-6) 41-0.

The Beavers' sixth successive defeat eliminated them from any shot at bowl eligibility.

Men's College Hoops: Ducks Just Outside AP Preseason Top 25, Get Support In Coaches' Poll; No Support For Beavers, Pilots, Or Vikings

Both the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches' men's college basketball pre-season polls were released on Sunday.  The Oregon Ducks would be ranked at #26 in the AP poll while they would ranked 33rd in the Coaches' rankings.

There was no support in either poll for the Oregon State Beavers, Portland Pilots, or Portland State Vikings, the Beaver State's three other Division I men's basketball programs.

In the first College Football Playoff rankings released on Tuesday, the Clemson Tigers hold the number one spot, followed by LSU, Ohio State, and Alabama.   Notre Dame is ranked #5.

At #11, the Stanford Cardinal are the highest rated Pac-12 team.

ROYALS SCORE TWICE IN NINTH TO FORCE EXTRA INNINGS, ERUPT FOR FIVE MORE IN 12TH AS KANSAS CITY WINS FIRST WORLD SERIES TITLE IN 30 YEARS

Trailing 2-0 in the ninth inning on Sunday, the Kansas City Royals scored twice in that inning (with Eric Hosner scoring the equalizer), then, with Christian Colon delivering a tie-breaking single in his first post-season at bat and Lorenzo Cain delivering a three-run double, erupted for five more runs in the 12th inning as they defeated the New York Mets 7-2 in game five to win their first World Series championship since 1985, taking the series in five games.  That's Eric, here, celebrating with third baseman Mike Moustakas after the game.

2015 MLS Cup Playoffs: Red Bulls, Impact, Sounders Grab Series Openers; Timbers Battle Caps To 0-0 Game-One Stalemate In Portland

Four conference semifinal series opened on Sunday as the MLS Cup Playoffs resumed.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

At Washington:

Dax McCarty scored the only goal of the match in the 72nd minute as the New York Red Bulls took the opening match of their two-game conference semifinal series with DC United 1-0 on the road.

At Montreal:

Patrice Bernier (37') and Johan Venegas (77') each tallied once as the Montreal Impact defeated the visiting Columbus Crew 2-1 in game one of their two-game series.  Federico Higuain scored what might still be an important road goal for the Crew in the 33rd minute.



WESTERN CONFERENCE:

At Portland, Oregon:

The opening contest between the Portland Timbers and the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

At Seattle:

Andreas Ivanschitz (67') and Clint Dempsey (86') produced the second-half scoring as the Seattle Sounders came from behind to overtake visiting FC Dallas 2-1.  Fabian Castillo scored what might still be a precious away goal for the Hoops in the 18th minute.

Rams Smother Niners' Sleepy Offense

At St. Louis:

Running back Todd Gurley ran for 133 yards on 20 carries (71 of those yards on a touchdown run) as the St. Louis Rams (4-3) defeated the visiting San Francisco 49ers (2-6) 27-6 on Sunday.

Ducks Still Have Support In Coaches' Poll

After their triple-overtime road win last Thursday against Arizona State, the Oregon Ducks, while still without support in the Associated Press college football poll, still had support in the USA Today/Amway Coaches' rankings, where they would be ranked #32.
