Timbers Gain Draw With SKC, Draw Closer To Playoff Berth

At Kansas City, Kansas:

Goals from Sebastian Blanco (29') and Dairon Asprilla (PK-85') enabled the Portland Timbers to gain a 2-2 Major League Soccer Sunday road draw with Sporting Kansas City.

Krysztian Nemeth (30') and Daniel Salloi (46') provided the goals for the hosts.

The Timbers were reduced to ten men after Brian Fernandez was ejected via a straight red card in the 35th minute.

Sporting KC were reduced to nine men after Roger Espinoza (40'; he set an MLS career record with his 11th red card) and Ilie Sanchez (85') were ejected via red cards.

The Timbers can lock up a playoff berth next Sunday with a home win or draw against the San Jose Earthquakes at 1:00 PM Pacific Time (ROOT Sports Northwest; ESPN+).

Austin Too Bold For T2

At Portland, Oregon:

Andre Lima scored the winning goal in the 84th minute on Sunday as the Austin Bold came from behind to register a 2-1 road win over Portland Timbers 2.

Next on T2's schedule, a home match against Phoenix Rising this coming Saturday at 7:00 PM Pacific Time (ESPN+).

Jet Toner kicked the game-winning field goal from 39 yards out with one second remaining on Saturday as the Stanford Cardinal (2-3 overall, 1-2 in Pac-12 play) edged out the Oregon State Beavers (1-3, 0-1) 31-28 on the road, spoiling the Beavers' conference opener.

Riders Blast Argos In Toronto, Clinch Playoff Berth

At Toronto:

Quarterback Cody Fajordo threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns while running for 80 yards and another score on Saturday as the Saskatchewan Roughriders (9-4) ran roughshod over the Toronto Argonauts (2-11) 41-16 in Canadian Football League action and locked up a Grey Cup playoff berth for the third successive season.

The Riders are now tied with Calgary atop the CFL's Western Division standings with five regular-season contests left.

Timbers Blow Two-Goal In Controversial Fashion, Settle For Home Draw With Revs

At Portland, Oregon:

Gustavo Bou (87') and Carles Gil (PK-90'+7) each scored once on Wednesday as the New England Revolution battled back from two goals down to gain a 2-2 Major League Soccer road draw with the Portland Timbers, who wrapped up a ten-match homestand.

Jeremy Ebobisse scored twice (49', 81') for the Timbers, who climbed up two spots to sixth place in the Western Conference standings.

The Timbers will visit Sporting Kansas City this coming Sunday at 4:30 PM Pacific Time (ROOT Sports Northwest; ESPN+).

Niners Overcome Five Turnovers And Steelers For First 3-0 Start Since '98

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Dante Pettis with 75 seconds remaining as the San Francisco 49ers (3-0; first such start since 1998) overcame five turnovers (four of them in the first sixteen minutes) and defeated the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers (0-3; first such start since 2000) 24-20 in their home opener on Sunday.

Ducks Drop A Spot In AP Poll Despite Dominating Victory Over Montana; They Stay At #17 In Coaches Rankings

Even with the decisive home victory Saturday night over Montana, the Oregon Ducks still dropped a spot to #16 in the latest Associated Press college football poll released on Sunday.

The Ducks remained at #17 in the USA Today/Amway Coaches poll.

Timbers Fall At Home To DC

At Portland, Oregon:

An own goal in the 25th minute from Bill Tuiloma proved costly as DC United knocked off the Portland Timbers 1-0 on the road in Sunday Major League Soccer action.

Bill Hamid saved four saves for the shutout and victory.

The Timbers will try to get back on the winning track when they host the New York Red Bulls this coming Wednesday night at 7:30 PM (Timbers TV Network via KPDX-TV, Portland-Vancouver; ESPN+).
