Alec Wintering scored 23 points on Saturday afternoon to help carry the Portland Pilots (9-5 overall, 2-0 in WCC play) to a 73-60 home win over Pepperdine (4-10, 0-2) as the Pilots led from wire to wire.

Bears Top Vikings On Road

At Portland, Oregon:

Jordan Davis scored 19 points on Saturday as the Northern Colorado Bears (6-7 overall, 2-0 in Big Sky play) defeated the Portland State Vikings (8-5, 1-1) 73-59 on the road, ending the Vikes' five-game winning streak.

CFP Semifinal (PlayStation Fiesta Bowl): Clemson Buries Ohio State, Sets Up Title Game Rematch With 'Bama; Buckeyes Shut Out In Post-Season Play First Time Since 1920 Rose Bowl

At Glendale, Arizona:

Quarterback Deshaun Watson threw for 259 yards and a touchdown (30 yards to C.J. Fuller) and carried the ball for 57 yards and two more scores on Saturday night as the second-seeded Clemson Tigers (13-1) demolished the third-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes (11-2) 31-0 in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, which doubled as the second College Football Playoff semifinal contest.

The shutout defeat with the first suffered by the Buckeyes in a post-season match since being stifled by California 28-0 in the 1920 Rose Bowl.  It was the first-ever shutout suffered by OSU head coach Urban Meyer in 15 years as an FBS head coach (his 194th game).

The Tigers will get another shot at defending champs Alabama in a rematch of last year's CFP title game in this year's championship game, set for Monday, January 9 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, with the kickoff set for 5:30 PM Pacific Time (ESPN).

In the final college game played at the Georgia Dome, running back Bo Scarborough ran for 180 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday as the top-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide (14-0) overcame an early 7-0 deficit by scoring 24 unanswered points and smothered the fourth-seeded Washington Huskies (13-1) 24-7 in opening semifinal match of the College Football Playoff, also known as the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.  The defending champions will return to the National Championship Game, set for 5:30 PM Pacific Time at Tampa, Florida, airing on ESPN.

Taxslayer Bowl: Yellow Jackets Sting Wildcats

At Jacksonville, Florida:

Dedrick Mills ran for a career-high 168 yards and a touchdown on Saturday as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (9-4) downed the Kentucky Wildcats 33-18 (7-6) in the Taxslayer Bowl.

Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl: Bayou Bengals Slam Door On Cardinals

At Orlando, Florida:

Running back Derrius Guice ran for 138 yards and a touchdown and caught a one-yard pass for another score on Saturday as the Louisiana State Tigers (8-4, #20 in the CFP rankings and USA Today/Coaches poll, #19 in the Associated Press poll)  manhandled the Louisville Cardinals (9-4, #13 in CFP, #15 in both AP and Coaches) 29-9 in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl.

The Tigers' defense sacked Cardinals' Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson eight times.

Vikings Make Fried Chicken Out Of Fighting Hawks In Big Sky Opener

Calaen Robinson scored 18 points as he and six teammates scored in double figures on Thursday night as the Portland State Vikings (8-4 overall, 1-0 in Big Sky) opened Big Sky Conference play by annihilating the visiting North Dakota Fighting Hawks (5-6, 0-1) 99-62.

The Vikings have now won five straight games and seven of their last eight.

Debbie Reynolds, Actress Who Starred In Numerous 1950s and 1960s Movies, R.I.P.

Debbie Reynolds, the actress who starred in such 1950s and 1960s movies as "Singin' In The Rain," " Tammy and the Bachelor," "The Tender Trap," "The Singing Nun," and "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," passed away on Wednesday at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles at age 84.

Miss Reynolds' passing came the day after the passing of her actress-author daughter Carrie Fisher, who had suffered a massive heart attack late last week while on a flight from London to Los Angeles.

Farewell To The Original Princess Leia

Carrie Fisher, the actress best remembered for portraying Princess Leia in the original series of Star Wars movies, passed away on Tuesday morning at a Los Angeles hospital, several days after suffering a massive heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles.

Miss Fisher, who was 60 years old, never regained consciousness after suffering the heart attack.

Carrie was the daughter of fellow actress Debbie Reynolds and her then-husband, singer Eddie Fisher.

Bills Can Rex, Brother

The Bills, whose absence from post-season play (the longest current such drought in the four major US professional sports leagues) has now reached seventeen straight years, fired not only head coach Rex Ryan, they also canned Rex's twin brother Rob from his job as defensive coordinator.

Offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn will serve as Buffalo's interim head coach for Sunday's season finale against the New York Jets.

St. Petersburg Bowl: Miss State Holds Off RedHawks

At St. Petersburg, Florida:

Nick Fitzgerald ran for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Mississippi State Bulldogs (6-7) held off the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (6-7) 17-16 in Monday's St. Petersburg Bowl.

The Bulldogs' Nelson Adams got a hand on the RedHawks' Nick Dowd's potential field goal attempt with 37 seconds left to preserve Mississippi State's victory.

Men's College Hoops: Ducks At #21 In Both Polls

As the Oregon Ducks, riding an nine-game winning streak, are preparing for Pac-12 play (which opens at home on Wednesday against second-ranked UCLA) , they find themselves at #21 in both the Associated Press (down one spot from last week) and USA Today/Coaches (the same as last week) men's college basketball polls that were released on Monday.

Again, there was no support in either poll for any of the Beaver State's men's Division I basketball teams.

Niners Pull Out Late Win Over Rams In LA, End 13-Game Losing Skid

At Los Angeles:

After connecting with Rod Streater with 31 second remaining in regulation time on Saturday, quarterback Colin Kaepernick ran for the game-winning two-point conversion as the San Francisco 49ers (2-13) pulled the plug on their club-record 13-game losing streak by defeating the Los Angeles Rams (4-11) 22-21 on the road and swept their season series against their in-state rivals.

Armed Forces Bowl: Close Victory For La Tech At Navy's Expense

At Fort Worth, Texas:

Quarterback Ryan Higgins threw for 409 yards and four touchdowns (two apiece to Trent Taylor and Carlos Henderson) while Jonathan Barnes kicked a game-winning field goal from 32 yards out as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (9-5) upended Navy (9-5) 48-45 in Friday's Armed Forces Bowl.

The Midshipmen, who tried to pick up consecutive ten-win seasons for the first time ever, instead, ended the season with three straight defeats (dropping the American Athletic Conference title game to Temple, then losing to Army for the first time since 2001).

Bahamas Bowl: Monarchs Pick Up Victory In First Bowl Game

At Nassau, Bahamas:

Quarterback David Washington threw for three touchdowns while running back Ray Lawry ran for 133 yards on Friday as the Old Dominion Monarchs (10-3), playing in their first bowl game as an FBS program, held off the Eastern Michigan Eagles (7-6) 24-20 in the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl.

Tre Coggins scored 24 points and converted six three-point shots, including one late in overtime as the Cal State Fullerton Titans (5-7) came back from down ten points with four minutes remaining in regulation and knocked off the visiting Portland Pilots (7-5) 77-72 on Thursday.

Alec Wintering topped the Pilots with 24 points of his own.

At Portland, Oregon:

Bryce Canda scored 19 points as the Portland State Vikings (7-4), with six players scoring in double figures, annihilated the visiting Walla Walla Wolves (NAIA; 1-11 overall) 118-59 ln Thursday.

Kendal Manuel scored 17 points on Wednesday night as the Oregon State Beavers (4-9) closed out non-conference play by going on a 27-8 second-half run as they stifled the visiting Kent State Golden Flashes (7-5) 69-50 to snap a five-game losing skid.

The Beavers will host unbeaten Southern California next Wednesday night as they open Pac-12 Conference play.

Poinsettia Bowl: BYU Holds Off Wyoming

At San Diego:

Quarterback Tanner Magnum threw for a touchdown and ran for another while Jamaal Williams ran 36 yards (of his 210) for another TD as the BYU Cougars (9-4) defeated the Wyoming Cowboys (8-6) 24-21 in Wednesday's edition of the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.

The Cougars' Kai Nacua intercepted a pass from Cowboys quarterback Josh Allen late in the fourth quarter to squelch the Wyoming comeback and seal the win for BYU.

Vikings Knock Off Pilots In Rose City College Roundball Derby

At Portland, Oregon:

Calaen Robinson, who scored 13 points on Tuesday night, converted a key three-point shot late in the contest as the Portland State Vikings (6-4) upended the hosts Portland Pilots (7-4) 77-75.

De'Sean Parsons paced the Vikes with 15 points while dishing out five assists.

Gabe Taylor topped the Pilots with 22 points while making 10 of 13 shots from the field.

Boca Raton Bowl: Hilltoppers Prove To Be Too Much For Memphis Tigers

At Boca Raton, Florida:

Gordie Tapp, the Canadian-born member of the cast of TV's Hee Haw (1969-92) best remembered for his portrayals of Cousin Clem on the Nashville-based comedy-variety hour, as well as the long-suffer proprietor of the local Kornfield Kounty General Store, passed away on Sunday at age 93.

Men's College Hoops: Ducks Climb In Both Polls

With their current winning streak now at eight games, the Oregon Ducks climbed up from #22 in both the Associated Press (up two spots to #20) and USA Today/Coaches (up one spot to #21) men's college basketball polls that were released on Monday.

Craig Sager, a veteran NBA broadcaster who was well known for his flashy jackets, passed away on Thursday after a long battle against leukemia at age 65.

Mr. Sager worked for 26 years as a sideline reporter for Turner Sports' coverage of the National Basketball Association.

John Glenn, who in 1962 became the first American to orbit the Earth (he was the last remaining surviving Astronaut from this country's Mercury space project) who later served 24 years (1975-99) as US Senator from Ohio, passed away on Thursday at age 95 at Colombus, Ohio.

Pilots Upend Vaqueros In 2OT Thriller

At Portland, Oregon:

Alec Wintering scored 24 points while Gabe Taylor (who added 16) tipped in the game-winning bucket in the second overtime period as the Portland Pilots (5-3) outlasted the visiting Texas-Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros (2-8) 90-89 on Monday night.

D'Marques Tysen sank seven three-pointers en route to a 21-point performance while Jazz Johnson added 19 points for the Pilots.

Antonio Green scored 28 points and Nick Dixon added 22 to pace the Vaqueros. 

Men's College Hoops: Ducks Drop In Both Polls Despite Unbeaten Week

Even after running their current winning streak to five games, the Oregon Ducks still dropped to #24 in both the Associated Press (down one spot) and USA Today/Coaches (down four) men's college basketball polls that were released on Monday.
