Earl Hamner, Jr. a novelist and former writer for the original version of The Twilight Zone, best remembered as the creator and producer of the 1972-81 CBS Network drama series The Waltons, passed away from bladder cancer in Los Angeles at age 92.
John-Boy, played on the series by Richard Thomas, was based on Mr. Hamner.
He provided the narration that opened and closed each episode.
