NCAA South: Canes, Jayhawks Advance To Sweet 16

The second round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament commenced on Saturday with eight games, with two of them in the South Regional.

At Providence, Rhode Island:

Angel Rodriguez scored 28 points as third-seeded Miami (27-7) defeated the eleventh-seeded Wichita State Shockers (26-9) 65-57 to advance to the regional semifinals, also known as the Sweet 16, a first for the Hurricanes in three years.

At Des Moines, Iowa:

Wayne Seldon, Jr. scored 22 points while Perry Ellis added 21 as the top-seeded Kansas Jayhawks (32-4) ran past the ninth-seeded Connecticut Huskies (25-11) 73-61.

Sterling Gibbs paced UConn with 20 points.
