Bud Collins, tennis historian and the American voice of that sport in print, and more widely known, on television, passed away on Friday at his Brookline, Massachusetts at age 86.
Bud's wife Anita, in a telephone interview, said that her husband passed way after suffering from Parkinson's Disease and dementia.
Mr. Collins was well known for creating player nicknames and turns of phrases that were as colorful as the one-of-a-kind bow-ties that were a trademark.
Bud also paved the way for fellow newspaper reporters to move on to broadcasting.
He became a familiar face to American television viewers who were waking up to Breakfast at Wimbledon on NBC.
