Browns' GM Follows Coach To Unemployment Office

This is an organization that can't shoot straight.

They could use new ownership.

In the 21 seasons since their return as an expansion club, the Browns have made the playoffs once (2002, the current post-season drought in the NFL, with only MLB's Seattle Mariners (2001) having gone through a longer such absence amongst the four major sports leagues.)

Bijan Nichols kicked the game-winning field goal from 23 yards out with five seconds remaining as Navy (#23 CFP; 11-2) capped off a school record-tying 11-win season by defeating the Kansas State Wildcats (8-5) 20-17 in Tuesday's Liberty Bowl.

The Midshipmen's one-man wrecking crew, quarterback Malcolm Perry, completed five of seven passes for 57 yards and a touchdown while carrying the ball 28 times for 213 yards.

Willie Harts ran back an interception 25 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown as the Arizona State Sun Devils (8-5) downed the Florida State Seminoles (6-7) 20-14 in Tuesday's Sun Bowl contest.

Belk Bowl: Wildcats Outgun Hokies In Charlotte

At Charlotte, North Carolina:

Quarterback Lynn Bowden, Jr., who ran for 233 yards and two touchdowns, threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Josh Ali with 15 seconds remaining on Tuesday to carry the Kentucky Wildcats (8-5) to a 37-30 Belk Bowl victory over the Hokies of Virginia Tech.

T-Birds Outlast Vikings On Road In Conference Action

At Portland, Oregon:

Dre Martin's successful three-point shot with 37 seconds remaining on Monday lifted the Southern Utah Thunderbirds (8-4 overall, 1-0 in Big Sky play) to a 83-81 road victory over the Portland State Vikings (7-7, 1-1).

Cameron Oluyitan paced the T-Birds with 24 points while John Knight III added 20 (to go with 11 rebounds) to the Southern Utah coffers.

Holland Woods and Matt Hauser topped the Vikings with 25 and 20 points respectively.

Men's College Hoops: Ducks Up To #4 In AP Poll; Up A Spot In Coaches Poll

The Oregon Ducks climbed up two spots to #4 in the Associated Press men's college basketball poll released on Monday.

The Ducks climbed up a spot to #6 in the USA Today/Coaches rankings that were also released on Monday.

Still no support for any of the three other Beaver State men's Division I basketball teams in either poll.

First Responder Bowl: Hilltioppers Top Broncos

In Monday's edition of the First Responder Bowl, running back Lucky Jackson ran for 148 yards and a touchdown while kicker Cory Munson kicked the game-winning career-long 52-yard field goal with no time remaining as the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (9-4) upended the Western Michigan Broncos (7-6) 23-20.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was economical as he completed 18 of 22 passes for 285 yards while running back Raheem Mostert ran for two touchdown and linebacker Dre Greenlaw tackled Jacob Hollister just inches short of the goal line in the final seconds as the San Francisco 49ers (13-3) locked up the NFC West Division title and the top seed in the NFC playoffs by holding off the Seattle Seahawks (11-5) 26-21 in the final game of the National Football League's 100th regular season.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Travis Etienne with 1:49 remaining in regulation as the defending national champion Clemson Tigers (#3 CFP; 14-0) overcame the second-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes (13-1) 29-23 in the Fiesta Bowl.

The Tigers' Nolan Turner intercepted a pass from OSU's Justin Fields in the end zone with 37 seconds remaining to seal the Clemson victory.

Quarterback Kenny Pickett completed 27 of 39 passes for 361 yards and three touchdowns (including the game winner from  25 yards out to Taysir Mack with 47 seconds remaining) on Thursday night as the Pittsburgh Panthers (8-5) edged out the Eastern Michigan Eagles (6-7) 34-30 in a Quick Lane Bowl that was marred by an altercation in the final seconds.

Eagles quarterback Mike Glass was ejected with ten seconds remaining after throwing punches to two players and inadvertently grazing a game official.

Ball State Cardinals Deliver Lumps Of Coal To Slumping Pilots In Honolulu On Christmas Day

Ishmael El-Amin scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half on Christmas Day as the Ball State Cardinals (7-6) overpowered the sagging Portland Pilots (8-7) 61-46 in the seventh-place game of the Diamond Head Classic.

In the opening game of the college football bowl season, Jaret Peterson ran for 173 yards and two touchdowns as the Buffalo Bulls (8-5) dominated the UNC-Charlotte 49ers (7-6) 31-9 in Friday's Bahamas Bowl.

The victory was the Bulls' first in four bowl games, spoiling the 49ers' post-season debut.

Ethan Thompson and Kylor Kelley each scored 23 points on Wednesday as the Oregon State Beavers (9-1) won their seventh straight game (first time since 1992-93) by outlasting the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners (4-7) 88-78.

The Beavers are off to their best start since starting 15-1 in the 1984-85 season.

Jhivvan Jackson and Keaton Wallace paced the Roadrunners with 28 and 21 points respectively.

Men's College Hoops: Ducks Climb Up To #8 In AP Poll; #10 In Coaches Rankings

After their overtime road win on Saturday over Michigan, the Oregon Ducks moved up two spots to #8 in the Associated Press men's college basketball poll released on Monday.

The Ducks also climbed up in the USA Today/Coaches poll, three spots to #10.

Despite a six-game winning streak and an 8-1 start, the Oregon State Beavers received no support in either poll (ditto for the two Portland schools).

Falcons Pull Out Last-Second Victory Over Niners (Who Still Clinch First Playoff Berth Since '13)

At Santa Clara, California:

In another wild, bizarre NFL contest, Matt Ryan threw the game-winning touchdown pass to Julio Jones with two seconds remaining (after an earlier incompletion ruling was overturned on video review) as the Atlanta Falcons (5-9) knocked off the San Francisco 49ers (11-3) 29-22 on the road.

Even with the setback, the Niners, thanks to the Los Angeles Rams' lopsided defeat at Dallas, still locked up their first playoff berth since 2013.

Isaiah White scored 16 points on Friday night as the Portland Pilots (7-3) snapped a two-game losing streak by defeating the visiting Evergreen State Geoducks, an NAIA squad, 77-55 as the Pilots equaled their victory total from all last season.

It was a big night on Thursday for Ian Burke as he converted five three-point shots and scored 23 points---both career highs----as the Portland State Vikings improved to 5-5 on the season after their 101-48 frontier-styled fist-beating of the visiting Portland Bible Wildcats (NCCAA), who actually led 15-7 at one point.

Ducks Finish At #7 In AP Gridiron Poll; #6 In Coaches Rankings

In this past Sunday's Associated Press and USA Today/Amway Coaches polls found the Oregon Ducks, newly crowned Pacific-12 Conference football champions, at #7 and #6 respectively.

The Ducks finished sixth in the final College Football Playoff rankings. 

Men's College Hoops: Ducks Reach Top Ten In Coaches Poll; Climb Up A Spot In Coaches Rankings

After ending their two-game skid by playing roughshod over Hawaii, the Oregon Ducks climbed up three spots to #10 in the Associated Press men's college basketball poll that was released on Monday.

The Ducks climbed up a spot to #13 in the USA Today/Coaches poll.

Again, no support in either poll for any of the Beaver State's three other men's Division I teams.
