UCLA, ranked #21 in the Associated Press poll (5-0 overall, 3-0 in Big-10 play), knocked off the 13th-ranked Oregon Ducks (3-2, 1-1) 17-15 on Saturday on the road.

The Bruins remained undefeated after five games.

Devils Top Canucks At Home

 At Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey:  

Nico Hischier scored twice while Jake Allen saved 21 of 22 shots on Saturday as the New Jersey Devils (2-2-0, 4 points) topped the visiting Vancouver Canucks (2-4-0, 4 points) 4-1 in National Hockey League play.

Dream, Valkyries Complete Semifinal Series Sweeps, Will Face Off In WNBA Playoffs

Both WNBA playoff semifinals resumed on Friday. 

At Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York:  

Angel Reese scored 22 points (and grabbed nine rebounds) while Rhyne Howard added 21 as the Atlanta Dream knockoff off the homestanding New York Liberty 85-83 and completed a three-game sweep of their semifinal series and advance to their first WNBA Finals since 2013.  

Jordin Canada helped the Atlanta cause with 19 points and 11 assists.  

Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones (who grabbed 14 rebounds) led New York with 26 points each. 

At Michelob Light Arena, Paradise, Nevada:  

Kayla Thornton scored 18 points (and pulled down nine rebounds) while Gabby Williams added 16 as the Golden State Valkyries defeated the hosts (and defending champions) Las Vegas Aces 87-77 in overtime and completed a three-game series sweep to advance to the WNBA Finals in their second season of existance.  

A'ja Wilson, recently named league MVP for the fifth time, paced the Aces with 21 points while grabbing 10 assists. 

The Dream will face off with the Valkyries in the best-of-seven WNBA Finals, starting Saturday, October 17 at San Francisco's Chase Center at 12:30 PM Pacific Time on NBC.

Guardians Force Game Five With White Sox

At Rate Field, Chicago: 

Jos Ramirez homered and drove in three runs on Thursday as the Cleveland Guardians defeated the homestanding Chicago White Sox 9-5 to level their American League Divisional Playoff series at two games apiece.  

The series---and the right to face the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Championship Series---will be decided on Saturday at 5:00 PM Pacific Time on TBS and TruTV. 

WNBA Playoffs: Dream, Valkyries One Win Away From Finals

 Both WNBA Playoff semifinal series continued on Wednesday.

At State Farm Arena, Atlanta:

Angel Reese and Jordin Canada (with eight assists) each scored 23 points as the Atlanta Dream defeated the visiting New York Liberty 101-98 to take a two-games-to-none semifinal series lead.

Breanna Stewart led New York with 35 points while pulling in 11 rebounds. Jonquel Jones added 21.

The Dream can close out the Liberty with a road win on Friday at 4:30 PM Pacific Time on ESPN2.

At Chase Center, San Francisco:

Tiffany Hayes came off the bench to score 21 points while Gabby Williams added 20 as the Golden State Valkyries defeated the visiting Dallas Wings 83-81.

A'ja Wilson paced the Aces with 24 points.

The Valkyries, now up two games to none, can close out the defending champions on Friday with a road win at 6:30 PM Pacific Time (NBC Sports Network/Peacock).

Dodgers, Brewers Advance To NLCS; Rays Finish Sweep Of Yankees; Guardians Stay Alive

All four Major League Baseball Divisional Playoff series resumed on Wednesday. 

AMERICAN LEAGUE: 

At Rate Field, Chicago: Jo Adell and Jos Ramrez with a pair of two-out triples as the visiting Cleveland Guardians overpowered the Chicago White Sox 9-3 to cut the ChiSox divisional playoff series advantage to two game to one.  

The White Sox can still close out the series at Rate Field on Thursday at 5:00 PM Pacific Time on TBS/TruTV.

At Yankee Stadium, the Bronx, New York:

Victor Mesa, Jr. hit a tiebreaking two-run homer off Max Fried as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the hosts New York Yankees 4-3 to advance to the American League Championship series.  

It will mark the third time the Rays have played in an ALCS, winning both times previously.

At Truist Field, Cumberland, Georgia:

Andy Pages drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the seventh inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the homestanding Atlanta Braves 4-1 and won their divisional playoff series three games to one.

At Petco Park, San Diego:

Garrett Mitchell tripled and scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers finished off the homestanding San Diego Padres 3-1 and won their divisional playoff series in four games.

The Dodgers and Brewers will face off in the National League Championship Series, which will open this coming Sunday (time to be determined) at Milwaukee's American Family Field on FOX or FS1.

The Dodgers swept the Brewers in last year's NLCS en route to repeating as World Series champions.

Devils Fall To Mammoth

At Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey: 

Nick Schmaltz scored his fifth goal of the season as the visiting Utah Mammoth (3-1-0, 6 points) defeated the New Jersey Devils (1-2-0, 2 points) 5-3 on Tuesday. 

NLDS: Dodgers Take Series Lead; Padres Avoid Elimination

Both National League Divisional Playoff series continued on Tuesday. 

At Truist Park, Cumberland, Georgia : 

Yoshimoto Yamamoto struck out ten batters in seven innings while Kike Hernandez hit a two-run homer as the Los Angeles Dodgers downed the homestanding Atlanta Braves 3-1 to take a two-games-to-one series advantage.  

The Dodgers can close out the series on Wednesday on the road at 3:00 PM Pacific Time (FS1).  

At Petco Park, San Diego: 

Jake Cronenworth hit a home run while Michael King's relief pitching paced the San Diego Padres to a 4-3 home victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in game three of their divisional playoff series.

Both American League Divisional Playoff Series continued on Monday.

The Chicago White Sox defeated the homestanding Cleveland Guardians 4-3 to take a two-games-to-none lead in their best-of-five series and can close it out with a home victory this coming Wednesday at 1:00 PM Pacific Time (TBS/TruTV).

At Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida:

Despite two home runs by the New York Yankees' Ben Rice, the Tampa Bay Rays still defeated the visitors 5-2 to open a two-games-to-none advantage in their divisional playoff series.

 The Oregon Ducks, despite having this past weekend off, climbed up two spots in both the Associated Press and Coaches college football polls released on Sunday.

Beavers Run Roughshod Over CSU In Pac-12 Opener

At Sonny Lubick Field at Canvas Stadium, Fort Collins, Colorado:  

In Saturday's Pac-12 Conference opener for both schools, Braden Atkinson threw for five touchdowns (three of them to Jesse Legree) as the visiting Oregon State Beavers (3-2) dominated the Colorado State Rams (2-3) 56-26. 

The Beavers have won more games this year than all of 2025.

Islanders Manhandle Devils On Long Island

 At UBS Arena, Elmont, New York:  

Six different players (Casey Cizikas, Victor Eklund, Simon Holmstrom, Bo Horvath, Ondrej Palat, and Brayden Schenn) each scored once while Ilya Sorokin saved all 37 shots as the New York Islanders, after a scoreless opening period, scored thrice in each of the other two periods enroute to massacring the visiting New Jersey Devils 6-0.

MLB Playoffs Divisional Playoff Series Open

All four Major League Baseball Divisional Playoff series (best-of-five) opened on Saturday.

At Progressive Field, Cleveland: Munetaka Murakami smacked a two-run homer while five pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout as the Chicago White Sox took the opening game on the road 3-0 over the Cleveland Guardians.  

At Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida:  

Drew Rasmussen threw a no-hitter that lasted 7 2/3 innings while Jonathan Aranda hit a home run for the game's lone hit as the Tampa Bay Rays opened their best-of-five Divisional Playoff series blanking the visiting New York Yankees 1-0.

At Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles:  

Tarik Skubal pitched six strong innings in triple-digit heat while Teoscar Hernandez, Kyle Tucker, and Max Muncy each homered as the Los Angeles Dodgers took game one of their Divisional Playoff series 5-3 at home over the Atlanta Braves. 

At American Family Field, Milwaukee: 

William Contreras hit the go-ahead home run in the seventh inning and the homestanding Milwaukee Brewers held off the San Diego Padres 3-2 in game one of their Divisional Playoff series.

MLB Playoffs: Braves Top Phillies To Get Shot At Dodgers

With three home runs on Thursday, the Atlanta Braves closed out the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 and won their National League opening-round series two games to one.  

The Braves will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in a best-of-five National League Divisional Playoff series, while will open on Saturday at Dodger Stadium at 1:00 PM Pacific Time on FOX.

WNBA Playoffs: Aces, Valkyries Advance To Semifinals

The quarterfinal round of the WNBA playoffs concluded on Friday.

Thursday's Game:

A'ja Wilson scored 36 points (and grabbed ten rebounds) while Chelsea Gray added 23 as the Las Vegas Aces held off the visiting Indiana Fever 94-83 and won their openig-round series two games to one. 

Kelsey Mitchell paced Indiana with 23 points.

Friday's Game: At Chase Center, San Francisco: Gabby Williams scored 19 points to lead the homestanding Golden State Valkyries past the Dallas Wings 77-73 to win their series two games to one, the first time the second-year expansion club won a playoff series. 

Arike Ogunbowale paced Dallas with 30 points.

Dallas and Golden State will face off in a best-of-five semifinal series, which will open on Sunday 1:00 PM Pacific Time on NBC.

Riders Fall At Home To Stampeders

The quarterfinal round of the WNBA Playoffs continued on Wednesday with two games. 

At CareFirst Arena, Washington: 

Five players, led by Allisha Gray with 22 points, scored in double-digits as the Atlanta Dream swatted the homestanding Washington Mystics 93-75 to complete a two-game series sweep.  Next up for Atlanta, a best-of-five semifinal series with the New York Liberty with the opening game at Atlanta's Gateway Center this coming Sunday with time and network to be determined.  

At College Park Center, Arlington, Texas:  

Arike Ogunbowale set a WNBA Playoff record with 45 points while Alysha Clark came off the bench to add 21 as the Dallas Wings leveled their series with the Golden State Valkyries at a game apiece after their 108-100 overtime home victory.

The Major League Baseball Playoffs continued on Wednesday with the second game of all four first-round series. 

AMERICAN LEAGUE:

At Daikin Field, Houston:

Chase Meidroth hit a three-run homer as the Chicago White Sox defeated the homestanding Houston Astros 7-3 to complete a two-game sweep of their opening-round series.  It marks the first postseason series the ChiSox won since winning the 2005 World Series against those same Houston Astros (who were then in the National League).  The White Sox will now face the Cleveland Guardians in an American League best-of-five Divisional Playoff series, which will open at 10:00 AM Pacific Time at Progressive Field in Cleveland on TBS/TruTV.  

At Yankee Stadium, The Bronx, New York:

Cam Schlitter pitched 6 1/3 innings of shutout baseball while Ben Rice homered twice and delivered six runs as the New York Yankees opened their first-round series by making mince meat of the Boston Red Sox 9-0.

Austin Riley hit a three-run homer as the Atlanta Braves took game one of their series with the visiting Philadelphia Phillies 5-3.

Fernando Tetis, Jr. hit the first-ever leadoff homer in franchise history as the San Diego Padres massacred the visiting Chicago Cubs 8-0 in their series opener.

WNBA Playoffs: Liberty Complete Sweep Of Top-Seeded Lynx; Catlin Clark Keeps Fever Alive

The second game of two quarterfinal-round series in the WNBA Playoffs took place on Tuesday. 

At Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York:

Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones (with 13 rebounds) each scored 21 points as the eighth-seeded New York Liberty completed a two-game series sweep of the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx with an 87-71 home victory.

Courtney Williams paced the Lynx with 18 points.

At Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Indianapolis:

Caitlin Clark scored 27 points (with 15 assists) while Kelsey Mitchell added 26 and Aliyah Boston 22 as the Indiana Fever squared their best-of-three series at a game apiece after their 99-89 home triumph over the defending champion Las Vegas Aces. 

Jackie Young paced the Aces with 31 points points (making all 13 free throws in the process) while A'ja Wilson added 22 (to go with nine rebounds).  

The series will be decided on Friday at the Michelob Light Arena in Paradise, Nevada and will be cablecast on the USA Network with tip-off at a time to be determined. 

WNBA Playoffs Open

 The Women's National Basketball Association's Playoffs opened on Sunday with first game of all four quarterfinal-round series (best -of-three).

At Target Center, Minneapolis:

Breanna Stewart scored 34 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the New York Liberty knocked off the homestanding Minnesota Lynx 91-75 in their series opener.

Nia Brodie came off the bench to score 16 points to lead Minnesota.

At Michelob Light Arena, Paradise, Nevada:

Aja Wilson scored 38 points and pulled down 16 rebounds while Jackie Young added 21 points and 10 assists as the homestanding  Las Vegas Aces took game one of their series with the Indiana Fever 102-85.

Aliyah Boston paced the Fever with 18 points.

Niners Make Kangaroo Meat Of Rams In Season Opener In Australia

 At Melbourne Cricket Ground, East Melbourne, Victoria, Australia:

In front of 100,021 fans on Thursday (Friday in Australia), the San Francisco 49ers opened their National Football League regular season by dismantling the Los Angeles Rams 27-7 in the league's first-ever regulation-season contest in Australia.

After holding off a game Boise State squad in their season opener, the Oregon Ducks fall four spots to number six in the Associated Press college football poll.  The Ducks also fall four spots to number six in the Coaches' poll.

In the AP poll, Oregon still amassed three first-place votes, one in the Coaches poll.

The Knickerbockers won the NBA Finals in six games.

Dylan Harper came off the bench to score 25 points to lead the Spurs, with Victor Wembanyama added 19, to go with 14 rebounds.

Stanley Cup Final: Hurricanes One Win Away From First Cup Since 2006

NBA Finals: Knicks Stage Historic Comeback, Find Themselves One Win Again From First Title Since '73

OG Anunoby, who scored 33 points, scored the game-winning basket with 1.2 seconds remaining in regulation on Wednesday as the New York Knicks came back from a 29-point deficit to stun the visiting San Antonio Spurs 107-106 in game four of the NBA Finals. 

It was the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history.

Jalen Brunson helped New York's cause with 36 points.

Victor Wembanyama paced the Spurs with 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Dylan Harper came off the bench to score 24.

NBA Finals: Spurs Steal Game Three From Knicks, Cut New York's Series Advantage To 2-1

In Monday's third game of the NBA Finals, Victor Wembanyama scored 32 points (with eight rebounds) while Stephon Castle added 23 as the San Antonio Spurs held off the homestanding New York Knicks 115-111 to cut New York's series advantage to two games to one.

Six Spurs, including all five starters, scored in double digits.

Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 32 points while OG Anunoby added 28.

Shea Theodore scored the winning goal at 5:38 of the second overtime period on Saturday as the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the visiting Carolina Hurricanes 5-4 to take a two-games-to-one lead in the Stanley Cup Final.

Mitch Marner had a hand in the other four Vegas goals, scoring a natural hat trick and assisting on Tomas Hertl's power-play goal, all in the second period.

The Hurricanes came storming back in the third period with Jordan Martinook, Taylor Hall, Jordan Staal, and Andrei Svechnikov (power play) each tallying a goal.

The series will resume this coming Tuesday at the T-Mobile Arena at 5:00 PM on ABC.

Seth Jarvis scored the game-winning power-play goal 3:56 into overtime on Thursday as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the visiting Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 to square the Stanley Cup Final at one game apiece.

 Logan Stankoven, Mark Jankowski, and Jordan Staal (power play) each scored a third-period goal for Carolina.  

Brett Howland scored twice and Mark Stone once (with 81 seconds remaining in regulation) scored for the Golden Knights.

Stanley Cup Final: Canes Blow Lead, Drop Opening Game To Golden Knights

At Lenovo Center, Raleigh, North Carolina: 

In Tuesday's opening game of the Stanley Cup Final, Tomas Hertl scored the winning goal with 3:24 remaining in regulation time as the visiting Vegas Golden Knights outlasted the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4. 

Shea Theodore, Ivan Barbashev, William Karlsson, and Brett Howden also scored for the Knights.  

Nikolaj Ehlers scored twice for the Canes while Jordan Staal and Shayne Gostibehere also tallied for the hosts.  

The Final will continue on Thursday night in Raleigh on ABC.

NBA Playoffs: Spurs Oust OKC, Will Face Knicks In Finals

At Paycom Center, Oklahoma City:

Victor Wembanyama scored 22 points while Julian Champagnie added 20 as the San Antonio Spurs, with seven players including all five starters scoring in double figures, dethroned the defending NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder 111-103 in the seventh and deciding game of the Western Conference Final on Saturday. 

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 35 points (to go with nine assists). 

The Spurs will play in their first NBA Finals since 2014, when they defeated the Miami Heat in five games and will face the New York Knickerbockers in this year's finals, opening at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, starting this coming Wednesday at 5:30 PM Pacific Time on ABC.

The two teams faced each other in the 1999 Finals, which the Spurs won in five games their first NBA title, the first won by a former ABA club.

Stanley Cup Playoffs Canes Finish Off Habs, Will Face Golden Knights In Final

With the Canadiens' defeat, the drought for Canadian clubs for winning the Stanley Cup since 1993 continues.

The Hurricanes will open the Stanley Cup Final will open in Raleigh on Tuesday at 5:00 PM Pacific Time on ABC.

Victor Wembanyama scored 28 points and grabbed ten rebounds on Thursday as the San Antonio Spurs dominated the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder 118-91 to square their NBA Western Conference Final at three games apiece.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander paced the Thunder with 15 points.

The series will be decided in Oklahoma City this coming Saturday at 5:00 PM Pacific Time on NBC and Peacock.

The Hurricanes, by beating the Canadiens on Friday night back home in Raleigh, will reach the Stanley Cup Final against the Vegas Golden Knights. 

Stanley Cup Playoffs: Golden Knights Finish Off Avalanche, Advance To Final

At T-Mobile Arena, Paradise, Nevada:

Mark Stone and Cole Smith each contributed a goal while goalie Carter Hart saved 20 of 21 shots on Tuesday as the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Colorado Avalanche 2-1 and completed a four-game sweep of the Western Conference Final.

The Golden Knights will play in their third Stanley Cup Final against the winner of the Carolina-Montreal series (which the Hurricanes lead two games to one).

Vegas lost the Final to Washington in 2018, but won it in 2023 over Florida.

The Final will take place in June on ABC-TV with date and time to be determined. The series will open at Montreal or Raleigh. 

NBA Playoffs: OKC Take 3-2 West Final Series Lead On Spurs

 At Paycom Center, Oklahoma City:

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 32 points as the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the visiting San Antonio Spurs 127-114 at home in game five of the NBA Western Conference Final on Tuesday.

Alex Caruso, off the bench, added to the OKC cause with 22 points while Jared McCain poured in 20.

Stephon Castle led the Spurs with 24 points while Julian Champagnie added 22 (to go with his eight rebounds) and Victor Wembanyama contributed 20.
