Stanley Cup Playoffs: Lightning Close Out Bruins In 2 OT; Avalanche Top Stars To Force Game Six

Two games were contested as the Stanley Cup Playoffs continued.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

At Toronto:

Victor Hedman scored the game and series-winning goal at 14:10 of the second overtime period while Andrei Vasilevskiy saved 45 of 47 shots as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Boston Bruins 3-2 in game five of their conference quarterfinal series and ousted the B's four games to one.


WESTERN CONFERENCE:

At Edmonton, Alberta:

Andre Burakovsky scored twice as the Colorado Avalanche staved off elimination by doubling up the Dallas Stars 6-3 in game five of their conference quarterfinal series.

The Stars, who still lead three games to two, can close out the Avalanche with a game-six victory on Wednesday (5:00 PM Pacific Time, NBCSN).

NBA Playoffs: Heat Knock Off Bucks In East Semifinal Series Opener; Thunder Top Rockets To Force Game Seven Of West Quarterfinal Series

The NBA Playoffs continued on Monday with two games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, Bay Lake, Florida.


EASTERN CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS:

In the opening game of their conference semifinal series, Jimmy Butler scored 40 points while Goran Dragic added 27 as the Miami Heat upended the Milwaukee Bucks 115-104.

Khris Middleton led the Bucks with 28 points while Brook Lopez added 24. 



WESTERN CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS:

Chris Paul scored 28 points while Danilo Gallani added 25 as the Oklahoma City Thunder leveled their conference quarterfinal series at three games apiece following their 104-100 game-six victory over the Houston Rockets.

James Harden topped the Rockets with 32 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out seven assists.

The series (as well as the Playoffs' Round of 16) will close out on Wednesday (6:00 PM Pacific Time, ESPN).

Brock Nelson scored twice as the New York Islanders held off the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 in game four of their conference quarterfinal series.

The Islanders, now up three games to one, can close out the series with a game-five victory on Tuesday (4:00 PM Pacific Time, NBCSN).



WESTERN CONFERENCE (Both games played at Edmonton):

Game #1:

Radek Fakasa, Jamie Benn, and Roope Hintz each scored a power-play goal as the Dallas Stars held off the Colorado Avalanche 5-4 in game four of their conference quarterfinal series, which Dallas now leads three games to one.

The Stars can lock up the series with a game-five victory on Monday (6:45 PM Pacific Time, NBCSN).

Game #2:

Max Pacioretty scored twice (once on the power play) as the Vegas Golden Knights held off the Vancouver Canucks 5-3 in game four of their series.

The Knights can finish off the Canucks (the last remaining Canadian club left in the playoffs) with a game-five triumph on Tuesday (6:45 PM Pacific Time, NBCSN).

The NBA Playoffs continued on Sunday with three games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

EASTERN CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS:

In the opening game of their conference semifinal series, Marcus Smart and Jayson Taylor (who pulled in nine rebounds) each scored 21 points as the Boston Celtics, with six players scoring in double figures, upended the Toronto Raptors (who also had six players scoring in double figures) 112-94.



WESTERN CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS:

Game #1:

Kawhi Leonard scored 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds (while dishing out seven assists) as the Los Angeles Clippers finished off the Dallas Mavericks 111-97 in game six and won their conference quarterfinal series four games to two.

Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with 38 points while pulling in nine boards and dishing out nine assists.

Game #2:

Jamal Murray scored 50 points while Nikola Jokic added 22 as the Denver Nuggets squared their series with the Utah Jazz at three games apiece following their 119-107 game-six victory.

Donovan Mitchell led the Jazz with 44 points while Mike Conley added 21.

The series will be decided on Tuesday at 5:30 PM Pacific Time (ABC).

The Oregon Ducks ranked #9 in the Associated Press preseason college football poll that was released this past Monday.

As was with the USA Today/Amway Coaches poll, there was no support for the Oregon State.

The NBA Playoffs resumed on Saturday with three games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 28 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as the Milwaukee Bucks held off the Orlando Magic 118-104 in game five of their conference quarterfinal series, which the Bucks wrapped up in five games.

Khris Middleton added 21 points and ten rebounds (as well as seven assists) to the Bucks' coffers.

Nikola Vucevic paced the Magic with 22 points.


WESTERN CONFERENCE:


Game #1:


James Harden scored 31 points while Robert Covington added 22 and Eric Gordon 20 as the Houston Rockets smothered the Oklahoma City Thunder 114-80 in game five of their conference quarterfinal series, which they can wrap up with a game-six victory on Monday (6:00 PM Pacific Time, TNT).

Game #2:

Anthony Davis scored 43 points and grabbed nine rebounds while LeBron James delivered a triple-double (36 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists) as the Los Angeles Lakers finished off the Portland Trail Blazers 131-122 in game five of their series which they won four games to one.

C.J. McCollum paced the Blazers with 36 points while Carmelo Anthony added 27 as Portland wrapped up their season playing their final game minus the injured Damian Lillard.

At Portland, Oregon:

In Saturday Major League Soccer, Corey Baird (19'), Damir Kreilach (48'), Giuseppe Rossi (90'), and Sam Johnson (90'+4) each scored once as Real Salt Lake, who trailed 4-2 after 89 minutes, came from behind to gain a 4-4 road draw with the Portland Timbers.

Diego Chara (6'), Jaroslaw Niezgoda (21'), Sebastian Blanco (70'), and Felipe Mora (85') each scored once for the Timbers.

Game #1:

Philippe Myers scored the game winner at 2:41 of overtime as the Philadelphia Flyers leveled their conference semifinal series with the New York Islanders at one game apiece after their 4-3 game-two victory.

Game #2:

Alex Killorn scored twice (once on the power play) as the Tampa Bay Lightning, with three power-play goals, destroyed the Boston Bruins 7-1 in game three as they took a two-games-to-one series lead.

Andrei Vasilevskiy saved 23 of 24 Boston shots.



WESTERN CONFERENCE:

At Edmonton, Alberta:

Six players each scored once as the Colorado Avalanche cut into the Dallas Stars' conference-semifinal series advantage to two games to one after their 6-4 victory in game three.

T2 Fall Again

At Portland, Oregon:

In Wednesday USL Championship action, Augustine Williams scored the game winner in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time as Los Angeles Galaxy II held off Portland Timbers 2 on the road by a 3-2 score.

T2 will again look for their first win of the season when they host the Tacoma Defiance on Sunday at 6:00 PM Pacific Time (ESPN+).

The NBA Playoffs continued on Tuesday with two games, both in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

Game #1:

Jamal Murray scored 42 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out eight assists as the Denver Nuggets kept their season alive with their 117-107 game-five victory over the Utah Jazz.

Nikola Jokic contributed 31 points to the Nuggets' coffers.

The Jazz, who still lead the series three games to two, and who can end it with a game six victory on Thursday (1:00 PM Pacific Time, ESPN), were led by Donovan Mitchell's 30 points.

Game #2:

Paul George scored 35 points while Kawhi Leonard added 32 as the Los Angeles Clippers demolished the Dallas Mavericks 154-111 in game five of their conference quarterfinal series, taking a three-games-to-two series lead in the proccess.

The Clips can close out the series with a game-six victory on Thursday (6:00 PM Pacific Time, ESPN).

Sounders Blank Timbers In Portland

At Portland, Oregon:

In Sunday's lone Major League Soccer match, Raul Ruidiaz scored twice (72', 83') and assisted once (on Kelvin Leerdam's goal in the 85th minute) as the Seattle Sounders punched out the Portland Timbers 3-0 on the road.

Chris Duval's goal for the Timbers in the fifth minute was negated after video review showed teammate Eryk Williamson offside.

The defeat ended Portland's eight-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.

The Timbers will try to turn things around on Wednesday as they visit the San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 PM Pacific Time (Timbers TV Network via KPDX, Portland/ESPN+)

The Bucks now lead two games to one.

D.J. Augustin came off the bench to lead the Magic with 24 points while Nikola Vucevic and Terrence Ross (also off the bench) each added 20.

Game #2:

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

Game #1:

Pascal Siakam scored 26 points (while grabbing eight rebounds) while Fred VanVleet added 22 and Serge Ibaka 20 (to go with his 13 rebounds) as the Toronto Raptors throttled the Brooklyn Nets 117-92 to take a three-games-to-one conference quarterfinal series lead.

The Raptors can finish off the Nets with a game-four victory on Sunday.

Tyler Johnson led Brooklyn with 23 points.

Game #2:

Duncan Robinson scored 24 points while Goran Dragic added 20 as the Miami Heat, with five players scoring in double figures, stretched their conference quarterfinal series lead over the Indiana Pacers to two games to none after their 109-100 game-two victory.

Victor Olapido topped the Pacers (all five of whose starters also scored in double figures) with 22 points.

Four games were contested on Tuesday as the NBA Playoffs continued at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

Game #1:

Fred Vanvleet (who dished out ten assists) and Norman Powell (off the bench) each scored 24 points while Kyle Lowry added 21 (to go with his nine rebounds) as the Toronto Raptors extended their conference quarterfinal series with the Brooklyn Nets to two games to none with their 104-99 game-two victory.

Garrett Temple topped the Nets with 21 points.

Game #2:

Jayson Taylor scored 33 points while Kemba Walker added 22 and Jaylen Brown 20 as the Boston Celtics took care of the Philadelphia 76ers 128-101 to extend their series lead to two games to none.

Joel Embiid topped the Sixers with 34 points while grabbing ten rebounds.



WESTERN CONFERENCE:

Game #1:

Donovan Mitchell scored 30 points and dished out eight assists as the Utah Jazz squared their series with the Denver Nuggets at one game apiece after their 124-105 game-two victory.

Jordan Clarkson came off the bench to contribute 26 points to the Utah coffers.

Nikola Jokic (who pulled in eleven rebounds) and Michael Porter, Jr. each scored 28 points to top the Nuggets.

Game #2:

Luka Doncic scored 28 points (while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out seven assists) while Kristaps Porzingis added 23 as the Dallas Mavericks leveled their series with the Los Angeles Clippers at one game apiece following their 127-114 game two triumph.

Kawhi Leonard topped the Clips with 35 points (while grabbing ten boards) while Lou Williams came off the bench to add 23 points to the Los Angeles coffers.

EASTERN CONFERENCE (All games played at Toronto):

Game #1:

Brayden Point scored the game winner at 5:12 of overtime as the Tampa Bay Lightning overcame a two-goal deficit to knock out the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 in game five and win their conference quarterfinal series four games to one.

The Blue Jackets remain the only NHL team to never reach a conference final (or semifinal round).

Game #2:

David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron each scored a second-period power-play goal as the Boston Bruins defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 in game five and won their series four games to one.

Game #3:

Joel Armia scored twice (once shorthanded) as the Montreal Canadiens averted elimination by defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3 in game five.

The Flyers, who still lead three games to two, can finish off the Habs with a game-six victory on Friday (4:00 PM Pacific Time, NBCSN).



WESTERN CONFERENCE (All games played at Edmonton):

Game #1:

Nazem Kadri and Nathan MacKinnon each scored twice (with each scoring once on the power play) while Philipp Grubauer saving 23 of 24 shots as the Colorado Avalanche demolished the Arizona Coyotes 7-1 in game five and won their conference quarterfinal series four games to one.

Game #2:

Tyler Motte scored twice (once shorthanded) as the Vancouver Canucks held off the St. Louis Blues 4-3 in game five for a three-games-to-two series lead.

The Canucks can finish off the defending Stanley Cup champions with a game-six victory on Friday (6:45 PM Pacific Time, NBCSN).
