Stanley Cup Playoffs: Jackets Extend Leafs Stanley Cup Drought By Another Year; Caps, Stars Win Round Robin Closers

The opening phase of the Stanley Cup Playoffs concluded on Sunday with three games.

EASTERN CONFERENCE (Both games played at Toronto):

SEEDING ROUND ROBIN:

Tom Wilson scored the winning goal early in the third period while Braden Holtby saved 30 of 31 shots as the Washington Capitals held off the Boston Bruins 2-1.

QUALIFYING ROUND (All series best of five):

Zach Werenski, Liam Foudy, and Nick Folingo (empty net) each scored once while Joonas Korpisalo saved all 33 shots as the Columbus Blue Jackets blanked the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-0 to advance to the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

The Maple Leafs are still in search of their first Stanley Cup championship since 1967.

At Edmonton:

After a 1-1 regulation draw, Denis Gurianov scored the only goal in the shootout as the Dallas Stars defeated the St. Louis Blues 2-1.
