Riders Begin Grey Cup Title Defense With Home Win Over BC Lions

At Mosaic Stadium, Regina, Saskatchewan: 


Samuel Emilus caught six passes for three touchdowns, including one with one minute remaining in regulation time as the Saskatchewan Roughriders opened defense of their Grey Cup championship with a 31-27 Canadian Football League home victory over the British Columbia Lions on Sunday.

Quarterback Cody Fajardo completed 21 of 26 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown on Friday as the Saskatchewan Roughriders (11-5) reclaimed----for the time being, anyway----sole possession of first place in the Canadian Football League's Western Division following their 27-19 road win over the British Columbia Lions (5-12).

Marcus Thigpen ran back a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown while quarterback Cody Fajardo completed 17 of 23 passes for 278 yards and two more scores on Saturday as the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2-3) held off the visiting British Columbia Lions (1-5) 38-25 in Canadian Football League action.

Riders Top BC Lions In Regular-Season Finale; Will Host A Grey Cup Playoff

At Regina, Saskatchewan:

Zack Evans and Ed Gainey each scored a defensive touchdown on Saturday as the Saskatchewan Roughriders (12-6) defeated the visiting British Columbia Lions (9-8) 35-16 in the Canadian Football League regular-season finale for the hosts.

The victory assured the Riders of hosting an upcoming Grey Cup Playoff game, either a divisional semifinal (November 11), or possibly the West Division Final (November 18).

Riders Force Six Turnovers, Rout BC Lions In Regina

At Regina, Saskatchewan:

Defensive back Ed Gainey came up with four interceptions on Sunday night as the Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-4) delivered a 41-8 frontier-styled fist-beating on the visiting British Columbia Lions (5-3) in Canadian Football League play.

Riders quarterback Kevin Glenn threw for 320 yards and three touchdowns in the victory, which saw the Saskatchewan defense come away with six takeaways at the Lions' expense.

Riders Smothered In Vancouver In Season Finale

At Vancouver, British Columbia:

Quarterback Jonathan Jennings completed 17 of 25 passes for 307 yards and three touchdowns (two of them to Emmanuel Arceneaux) while Paul McCallom, in his first start since coming out of retirement, converted all four of his field-goal attempts (including one from 44 yards) as the British Columbia Lions (12-6) closed out the Canadian Football League's regular season on Saturday with a 41-18 home thumping of the Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-13) and assured themselves of hosting a playoff game next weekend against Winnipeg.

Lions Ruin Riders' Mosaic Stadium Finale

Jonathan Jennings threw for two touchdowns and Jeremiah Johnson ran for another on Saturday as the British Columbia Lions (11-6) downed the Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-12) 24-6 on the road in a Canadian Football League contest that was the Riders' final game at Mosaic Stadium.

The Lions completed a three-game season-series sweep of the Riders.

Another Tough Defeat For The Riders

At Regina, Saskatchewan:

The British Columbia Lions (2-1) defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders (0-4) 27-24 on the road in Friday Canadian Football League action. Lions quarterback Travis Lulay threw for 127 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a career-high 105 yards.  The Riders remain the CFL's lone winless team as they have dropped their first four contests by a total of 12 points.

Riders Dominate Visiting BC Lions, Will Host Playoff Game

At Regina, Saskatchewan:

Weston Dressler caught three passes for 107 yards and a touchdown while Kory Sheets carried the ball 23 times for 144 yards and another major score as the Saskatchewan Roughriders (11-5) assured themselves at least of hosting an upcoming Grey Cup playoff game with their third straight Canadian Football League triumph on Saturday, 35-14 at home over the British Columbia Lions (9-7).  The win prevented the Calgary Stampeders from clinching the Western Division regular-season title.

Riders Drop Regular-Season Finale

At Vancouver, British Columbia:

Andrew Harris ran for 57 yards and a touchdown on nine carries as the British Columbia Lions (13-5) defeated the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders (8-10) 17-6 on Saturday night in the Canadian Football League regular-season finale for both playoff-bound clubs.
