Both WNBA playoff semifinals resumed on Friday.
At Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York:
Angel Reese scored 22 points (and grabbed nine rebounds) while Rhyne Howard added 21 as the Atlanta Dream knockoff off the homestanding New York Liberty 85-83 and completed a three-game sweep of their semifinal series and advance to their first WNBA Finals since 2013.
Jordin Canada helped the Atlanta cause with 19 points and 11 assists.
Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones (who grabbed 14 rebounds) led New York with 26 points each.
At Michelob Light Arena, Paradise, Nevada:
Kayla Thornton scored 18 points (and pulled down nine rebounds) while Gabby Williams added 16 as the Golden State Valkyries defeated the hosts (and defending champions) Las Vegas Aces 87-77 in overtime and completed a three-game series sweep to advance to the WNBA Finals in their second season of existance.
A'ja Wilson, recently named league MVP for the fifth time, paced the Aces with 21 points while grabbing 10 assists.
The Dream will face off with the Valkyries in the best-of-seven WNBA Finals, starting Saturday, October 17 at San Francisco's Chase Center at 12:30 PM Pacific Time on NBC.
