The Major League Baseball Playoffs continued on Wednesday with the second game of all four first-round series.
AMERICAN LEAGUE:
At Daikin Field, Houston:
Chase Meidroth hit a three-run homer as the Chicago White Sox defeated the homestanding Houston Astros 7-3 to complete a two-game sweep of their opening-round series. At Yankee Stadium, The Bronx, New York:
Cody Bellinger hit a home run and drove in four runs as the New York Yankees finished off their archrivals Boston Red Sox 9-2 at home to complete a two-game sweep of their series. The Bronx Bombers will next face the Tampa Bay Rays in an American Divisional Playoff series (best three-of-five) with the opening game set to be played at Tropicana Field on Saturday at 3:30 PM Pacific Time on TBS and TruTV.
NATIONAL LEAGUE:
At Truist Field, Cumberland, Georgia:
Bryce Harper hit the game-winning home run in the 10th inning as the Philadelphia Phillies squared their series with the Atlanta Braves at a game apiece with their 4-3 victory.
The series will be decided on Thursday at 5:00 PM Pacific Time on NBC and Peacock.
At Petco Park, San Diego:
Pinch hitter Gavin Sheets hit a two-run homer as the San Diego Padres completed a two-game first-round series sweep of the Chicago Cubs with their 4-1 home victory.
The Padres will face the Milwaukee Brewers in a best-of-five National League Divisional Playoff series, opening this coming Saturday in Milwaukee at 10:00 AM Pacific Time (FOX/FS1).
