2026 MLB Playoffs: Yankees, White Sox, Padres Sweep Into Divisional Playoffs; Phillies Force Game Three With Braves

The Major League Baseball Playoffs continued on Wednesday with the second game of all four first-round series. 


AMERICAN LEAGUE:


At Daikin Field, Houston:


Chase Meidroth hit a three-run homer as the Chicago White Sox defeated the homestanding Houston Astros 7-3 to complete a two-game sweep of their opening-round series.  It marks the first postseason series the ChiSox won since winning the 2005 World Series against those same Houston Astros (who were then in the National League).  The White Sox will now face the Cleveland Guardians in an American League best-of-five Divisional Playoff series, which will open at 10:00 AM Pacific Time at Progressive Field in Cleveland on TBS/TruTV.  


At Yankee Stadium, The Bronx, New York: 


Cody Bellinger hit a home run and drove in four runs as the New York Yankees finished off their archrivals Boston Red Sox 9-2 at home to complete a two-game sweep of their series.  The Bronx Bombers will next face the Tampa Bay Rays in an American Divisional Playoff series (best three-of-five) with the opening game set to be played at Tropicana Field on Saturday at 3:30 PM Pacific Time on TBS and TruTV.



NATIONAL LEAGUE:


At Truist Field, Cumberland, Georgia:


Bryce Harper hit the game-winning home run in the 10th inning as the Philadelphia Phillies squared their series with the Atlanta Braves at a game apiece with their 4-3 victory.


The series will be decided on Thursday at 5:00 PM Pacific Time on NBC and Peacock.


At Petco Park, San Diego:


Pinch hitter Gavin Sheets hit a two-run homer as the San Diego Padres completed a two-game first-round series sweep of the Chicago Cubs with their 4-1 home victory.


The Padres will face the Milwaukee Brewers in a best-of-five National League Divisional Playoff series, opening this coming Saturday in Milwaukee at 10:00 AM Pacific Time (FOX/FS1).

KNICKS COME BACK FROM DOUBLE-DIGIT DEFICIT TO CLAIM FIRST NBA TITLE SINCE 1973; JALEN BRUNSON NAMED SERIES MVP

At Frost Bank Center, San Antonio:  


Jalen Brunson, named the series Most Valuable Player, scored 45 points on Saturday as the New York Knicks came back from a double-digit deficit to defeat the homestanding San Antonio Spurs 94-90 to win their first NBA championship since 1973 and their third overall.


The Knickerbockers won the NBA Finals in six games.


Dylan Harper came off the bench to score 25 points to lead the Spurs, with Victor Wembanyama added 19, to go with 14 rebounds.

NBA Finals: Knicks Stage Historic Comeback, Find Themselves One Win Again From First Title Since '73

 At Madison Square Garden, New York City:


OG Anunoby, who scored 33 points, scored the game-winning basket with 1.2 seconds remaining in regulation on Wednesday as the New York Knicks came back from a 29-point deficit to stun the visiting San Antonio Spurs 107-106 in game four of the NBA Finals. 


It was the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history.


Jalen Brunson helped New York's cause with 36 points.


Victor Wembanyama paced the Spurs with 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Dylan Harper came off the bench to score 24.


The Knickerbockers, now up three games to one, can lock up their first NBA championship since 1973 by winning game five at San Antonio's Frost Bank Center on Saturday at 5:30 PM Pacific Time on ABC.

NBA Finals: Spurs Steal Game Three From Knicks, Cut New York's Series Advantage To 2-1

 At Madison Square Garden, New York City:


In Monday's third game of the NBA Finals, Victor Wembanyama scored 32 points (with eight rebounds) while Stephon Castle added 23 as the San Antonio Spurs held off the homestanding New York Knicks 115-111 to cut New York's series advantage to two games to one.


Six Spurs, including all five starters, scored in double digits.


Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 32 points while OG Anunoby added 28.


The series will resume this coming Wednesday at Madison Square Garden at 5:30 PM Pacific Time on ABC.

NBA Finals: Knicks Top Spurs For 2-0 Series Advantage

 At Frost Bank Center, San Antonio:


In Friday's second game of the NBA Finals, Karl-Anthony Towns scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Mikel Bridges and Jalen Brunson added 20 apiece as the New York Knicks defeated the homestanding San Antonio Spurs 105-104 to take a two-games-to-none series advantage.


Victor Wembanyama paced the Spurs with 29 points (to go with his nine rebounds) while De'Aaron Fox added 20.


The series will shift to New York's Madison Square Garden for game three on Monday at 5:30 PM Pacific Time on ABC.

NBA Finals: Knicks Come Back From Double-Digit Deficit To Top Spurs In Game One

 At Frost Bank Center, San Antonio:


Jalen Brunson scored 30 points while Karl-Anthony Towns added 18 (to go with 12 rebounds) as the New York Knicks came back from a double-digit deficit to knock off the homestanding San Antonio Spurs 105-95 in the opening game of the NBA Finals.


Victor Wembanyama paced San Antonio with 26 points while grabbing 12 rebounds.


The series will resume on Friday night in San Antonio at 5:30 PM Pacific Time on ABC.
