NCAA West: RED RAIDERS KNOCK OFF ZAGS FOR DEBUT FINAL FOUR APPEARANCE

Jarrett Carver scored 19 points as the third-seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders (30-6) qualified for their first-ever NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Final Four after their 75-69 Saturday victory over the top-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs (33-4) in the final of the West Regional.
Rui Hachimura topped the Zags with 22 points.

Wildcats Still Waiting For First Bowl Win Since '49; Setback Sets Pace For Awful Saturday For Big Ten

Taylor Potts threw for four touchdowns and scored an additional TD thanks to a trick play as Texas Tech (8-5) withstood a Northwestern (7-6) rally to win the inaugural edition of the TicketCity bowl 45-38 on Saturday. The Wildcats, who still have not won a bowl game since the 1949 Rose Bowl, have lost their last eight bowl games. The Red Raiders also got help from Eric Stephens, who ran 86 yards for a touchdown.

In a battle of teams that underwent all sorts of recent turmoil, Texas Tech (9-4), with Ruffin McNeill as interim head coach, replacing the fired Mike Leach, defeatedMichigan State (6-7) , minus 14 players suspended in the aftermath of a November dormitory brawl, by the score of 41-31 in Saturday's Valero Alamo Bowl. Backup quarterback Steven Sheffield (replacing an injured Taylor Potts---who had thrown for an Alamo Bowl-record 372 yards and two touchdowns) marched the Red Raiders downfield in eight plays, culminating in the game-winning 11-yard touchdown pass to Detron Lewis in the fourth quarter.
