Orange Bowl (New Year's Six): Gators Outlast Cavaliers In Miami

At Miami:

Running back (and game Most Valuable Player) Lamical Perine ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns (while catching a pass for another score) on Monday as the Florida Gators (#9, CFP; 11-2) held off the Virginia Cavaliers (#24 CFP; 9-5) 36-28 in the Orange Bowl.

PEACH BOWL: Gators Devour Wolverines

At Atlanta:

With Lamical Perine running 53 yards for one touchdown and catching a pass five yards for another score on Saturday, the Florida Gators (#10 in the CFP rankings; 10-3) belted the Michigan Wolverines (#7 CFP; 10-3) 41-15 in the Peach Bowl, the opening contest of the New Year's Six.

NCAA East: Gamecocks Knock Off Gators, Advance To First-Ever Final Four; Zags Next On Tap In Battle Of FF Debutantes

At New York:

Sindarius Thornwell (named regional Most Valuable Player) scored 26 points as the seventh-seeded South Carolina Gamecocks (26-10) overcame a seven-point halftime deficit and outlasted the fourth-seeded Florida Gators (27-9) 77-70 in the final of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's East Region, enabling the Gamecocks to reach the Final Four for the first time in their history.

South Carolina will face off against Gonzaga on Saturday (in the first meeting between Final Four first-timers since 1973) at Glendale, Arizona in a national semifinal.

Quarterback Austin Appleby threw for 222 yards and a pair of touchdowns on Monday as the Florida Gators (9-4; #17 in the CFP rankings, #20 and #18 in the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches polls, respectively) demolished the Iowa Hawkeyes (8-5; #21 AP, #25 Coaches) 30-3 in the Outback Bowl.

Treon Harris threw an 86-yard touchdown pass to Ahmad Fulwood in the third quarter and Vernon Hargreaves III intercepted a pass in the end zone with 80 seconds remaining in regulation as the Florida Gators (7-5) defeated the East Carolina Panthers (8-5) 28-20 in Saturday's Birmingham Bowl.

NCAA South: Wolverines Devour Gators, Reach First Final Four Since '93

At Arlington, Texas:

Nick Stauskas scored 22 points as the #4 Michigan Wolverines (30-7) dominated the #3 Florida Gators (29-8) 78-59 on Sunday to win the South Regional final of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament and advance to their first Final Four since back-to-back appearances in 1992 and 1993.

The Wolverines will face Syracuse on Saturday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta in the second national semifinal contest (5:49 PM Pacific Time, CBS).

Sugar Bowl: Cardinals Knock Off Gators

At New Orleans:

Terell Floyd returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater threw for a pair of scores on Wednesday night as the Louisville Cardinals (#21 in the Bowl Championship Series standings, #22 in the Associated Press poll, #18 in the USA Today/Coaches poll; 11-2) shocked the Florida Gators (#3 in the BCS standings; #4 in both the AP and coaches' polls; 11-2) 33-23 in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, part of the BCS.

NCAA West: Cardinals Go On 23-8 Run To Overtake Gators And Punch Ticket For Final Four

At Phoenix, Arizona:


Russ Smith scored 19 points while Chane Behanan made the go-ahead bucket with 66 seconds remaining as the fourth-seeded Louisville Cardinals (30-9) went on a 23-8 run and overtook the seventh-ranked Florida Gators (26-11)  72-68 to win the final of the NCAA Men's Basketball West Regional at the US Airways Arena to reach their ninth Final Four.

Gator Bowl: Urban's Old Team (One Of Them, Anyway) Beats His New One

At Jacksonville, Florida:


Defense and special teams proved important to the Florida Gators (7-6) as they defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes (6-7) 24-17 in Monday's Gator Bowl game.  The Gators' Andre Debose returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, the longest scoring play in bowl history, Chris Rainey blocked a punt that was returned for another touchdown.  The win enabled Florida to avoid their first losing season since 1979.

In Urban Meyer's final game as Florida's head football coach, Omarius Hines and Mike Gillislee ran for touchdowns, Chas Henry knocked in three field goals in the second half, and Ahmad Black sealed the contest with an 80-yard return of an interception for a TD as the Gators (8-5) defeated Joe Paterno's Penn State Nittany Lions (7-6) 37-24 in Saturday's Outback Bowl.

Tim Tebow Leads Gators To Sugar Bowl Win In Florida Finale

At New Orleans:

In his final game in a Florida uniform, quarterback Tim Tebow threw for a career-high 482 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 51 yards and another score as the Gators (13-1) smothered previously undefeated Cincinnati (12-1) 51-24 Friday night in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

End Of An Era In Gainesville

Urban Meyer will step down as head football coach at Florida after the Sugar Bowl game on New Year's Day due to health concerns.
