UCLA, MICHIGAN WIN NCAA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

At Mortgage Matchup Center, Phoenix, Arizona:

Gabriela Jaquez scored 21 points on Sunday as the UCLA Bruins won their first women's national championship by winning the NCAA Division I Women's Tournament title game by defeating the South Carolina Gamecocks 79-51.

The Bruins' Lauren Betts, who scored 14 points, was named the tournament' s Most Outstanding Player.

Tessa Johnson led the Gamecocks with 14 points.

At Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis:

Elliot Candeau, named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, scored 19 points on Monday as the Michigan Wolverines outdistanced the Connecticut Huskies 69-63 to win  their first NCAA Division I Men's Tournament championship since 1989.

Alex Karaban paced the Huskies with 17 points.

 

Citrus Bowl: Tide Rolls Past Wolverines

At Orlando, Florida:

Mac Jones completed 16 of 25 passes for 327 yards and three touchdowns---one of them to Jerry Jeudy (who caught six passes for 204 yards) in Wednesday as the Alabama Crimson Tide (#13 CFP; 11-2) dominated the Michigan Wolverines (#14 CFP; 9-4) 35-16 in the Citrus Bowl.

Ducks Knock Off Wolverines In OT Thriller In Ann Arbor

At Ann Arbor, Michigan:

Payton Pritchard scored 19 of his 23 points after halftime on Saturday as the Oregon Ducks (#10 AP, #13 Coaches; 8-2) knocked off the Michigan Wolverines (#5 AP, #7 Coaches; 8-3) 71-70 on the road in overtime.

Anthony Mathis added 19 points to the Ducks' coffers.

Franz Wagner topped the Wolverines with 21 points.

PEACH BOWL: Gators Devour Wolverines

At Atlanta:

With Lamical Perine running 53 yards for one touchdown and catching a pass five yards for another score on Saturday, the Florida Gators (#10 in the CFP rankings; 10-3) belted the Michigan Wolverines (#7 CFP; 10-3) 41-15 in the Peach Bowl, the opening contest of the New Year's Six.

Donte DiVincenzio (named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player) scored 31 points on Monday night as the Villanova Wildcats (#1 East; 36-4) dominated the Michigan Wolverines (#3 West; 33-8) 79-62 to win their second NCAA men's basketball national championship in the last three years (third overall).

Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman topped the Wolverines with 23.

WOLVERINES HOLD OFF NOLES IN WEST REGIONAL FINAL; GET CRACK AT RAMLBERS IN SAN ANTONIO

At Los Angeles (Staples Center):

In Saturday's final in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's West Regional, Charles Matthews scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the third-seeded Michigan Wolverines (32-7) held off the ninth-seeded Florida State Seminoles (23-12) 58-54.

The Wolverines will take on the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers in a national semifinal to be contested next Saturday at San Antonio.

Outback Bowl: Gamecocks Erase 16-Point Deficit, Overcome Wolverines In Tampa

At Tampa, Florida:

In Monday's Outback Bowl, quarterback Jake Bentley threw for 239 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the South Carolina Gamecocks (9-4) came back from down 16 points to upend the Michigan Wolverines (8-5) 26-19.

Orange Bowl: 'Noles Top Wolverines In Wild Curtain-Raiser To New Year's Six

At Miami:

Quarterback Deondre Francois threw the game-winning 12-yard touchdown pass to Nyquan Murray with 36 seconds remaining on Friday night as the Florida State Seminoles (10-3; #11 in the CFP Rankings, #10 in the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches polls) topped the Michigan Wolverines (10-3; #6 in CFP, AP, Coaches) 33-32 in the Orange Bowl, which kicked off the New Year's Six.

Jack Rudock threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns on Friday as the Michigan Wolverines (#14 in the final College Football Payoff rankings; 10-3) capped off Jim Harbaugh's first year as their head football coach with a 41-7 annihilation of the Florida Gators (#19 CFP; 10-4) in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl.

Running back De'Veon Smith ran for 126 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday as the Michigan Wolverines (1-1), after surrendering an early first-quarter touchdown, scored 35 unanswered points en route to a 35-7 beat-down of the visiting Oregon State Beavers (1-1) as Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh, in his first home game, picked up his first win as the head football coach at his alma mater.

Coach Canned At Michigan

In Brady Hoke's first year, the Wolverines caped off that season with a Sugar Bowl victory but have regressed each of the last three years with this past season marking their first non-bowl season since 2009.

2014 saw Michigan look like they would have been better coached by Ren Hoek.

Wolverines Hand Ducks First Setback

At Brooklyn, New York:

Zak Irwin scored 19 points and Caris LeVert added 18 as the Michigan Wolverines (#19 in the Associated Press poll, # 18 in the USA Today/Coaches rankings; 4-0) defeated the previously-unbeaten Oregon Ducks (3-1) 70-63 in the semifinal round of the Legends Classic on Monday.  Joseph Young paced the Ducks with 20 points.

Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl: K-State Too Much For Wolverines

At Tempe, Arizona:

Jake Waters threw for 271 yards and connected with Tyler Lockett on three touchdowns (6, 29, 8 yards) on Saturday night as the Kansas State Wildcats (8-5) overpowered the Michigan Wolverines (7-6) in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.  The victory was the Wildcats' first in a bowl game in 11 years.

Cardinals Top Wolverines To Capture First NCAA Men's Basketball Crown Since '86

At Atlanta:

Luke Hancock, named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four, scored 22 points as the Louisville Cardinals (35-5), who trailed by as many as 12 points late in the first half, won their third NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament championship (their first since 1986) 82-76 over the Michigan Wolverines (31-8) on Monday.  Cardinals' head coach Rich Pitino became the first coach to win the championship with two different schools (he won at Kentucky in 1996).

NCAA South: Wolverines Devour Gators, Reach First Final Four Since '93

At Arlington, Texas:

Nick Stauskas scored 22 points as the #4 Michigan Wolverines (30-7) dominated the #3 Florida Gators (29-8) 78-59 on Sunday to win the South Regional final of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament and advance to their first Final Four since back-to-back appearances in 1992 and 1993.

The Wolverines will face Syracuse on Saturday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta in the second national semifinal contest (5:49 PM Pacific Time, CBS).

Outback Bowl: Late TD Carries Gamecocks

At Tampa, Florida:

Dylan Thompson threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Bruce Ellington in the final minute as the South Carolina Gamecocks (#10 in the Bowl Championship Series standings and USA Today/Coaches poll, #11 in the Associated Press rankings; 11-2) edged out the Michigan Wolverines (#18 in the BCS, #19 in the AP poll, #22 in the coaches' poll; 8-5) 33-28 in a see-saw Outback Bowl played on Tuesday.

Sugar Bowl: Wolverines Edge Hokies In OT Thriller

At New Orleans:


Quarterback Denard Robinson threw two touchdown passes to Junior Hemingway (45 and 18 yards) and Brendan Gibbons kicked three field goals, including the game winner from 37 yards in overtime as the Michigan Wolverines (11-2; BCS #13) defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies (11-3; BCS #11) 23-20 in Tuesday's Sugar Bowl game.

Bulldogs Hand Wolverines Humiliating Defeat In J-Ville

At Jacksonville, Florida:

In a double dose of gawd-awful showings by Big Ten Conference schools from the state of Michigan on Saturday, quarterback Chris Relf threw for three touchdowns and ran for another while running back Vick Ballard ran for three scores himself as Mississippi State (9-4) handed Michigan (7-6) their most lopsided bowl defeat 52-14 in the Gator Bowl.  The 52 points were the most ever surrendered by the Wolverines in a bowl game.  This putrid performance may have sealed the fate of embattled Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez.
