WOLVERINES HOLD OFF NOLES IN WEST REGIONAL FINAL; GET CRACK AT RAMLBERS IN SAN ANTONIO

In Saturday's final in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's West Regional, Charles Matthews scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the third-seeded Michigan Wolverines (32-7) held off the ninth-seeded Florida State Seminoles (23-12) 58-54.
The Wolverines will take on the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers in a national semifinal to be contested next Saturday at San Antonio.

Independence Bowl: Seminoles Too Much For Southern Miss

Quarterback James Blackman completed 18 of 26 passes for 233 yards and four touchdowns as the Florida State Seminoles (7-6) capped off what was a very tough season for them (by their standards) by blowing out the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (8-5) 42-13 in Wednesday's Independence Bowl, in Odell Haggins' swan song as the Seminoles' interim head coach (ex-Oregon head coach Willie Taggert was already tagged to be the permanent successor to the departed Jimbo Fisher).

Ducks Lose Football Coach To Seminoles
Oregon now finds itself in search of a new coach as Willie Taggert, after going 7-5 in his lone season in Eugene, replaces Jimbo Fisher at Tallahassee.
Co-offensive coordinator Mario Cristobal is expected to be the Ducks' interim coach at the Las Vegas Bowl on December 16 when they take on Boise State.

In the span of just under 13 minutes of game time on Thursday, the second-seeded Oregon Ducks (13-1) smashed opened what was a 25-20 game into a 59-20 demolition of the previously-unbeaten----and defending national champions, the #3-seeded Florida State Seminoles (13-1) in the Rose Bowl Game which was also the opening semifinal match of the inaugural edition of the College Football Playoff, ending the Seminoles' winning streak at 29 games. Quarterback Marcus Mariota completed 26 of 36 passes for 338 yards and two touchdowns, both to Darren Carrington (56 and 30 yards). Linebacker Tony Washington ran back a fumble 58 yards for another score. The Ducks scored the last 34 points of the game. Another Freshman Wins The Heisman Trophy
Redshirt freshman quarterback Jameis Winston won the Heisman Trophy as most outstanding college football player on Saturday in New York City. This marked the second straight year that a freshman won the Heisman (after Johnny Manziel last year). Mr. Winston becomes the third Seminole (after Charlie Ward in 1993 and Chris Weinke in 2000) to win the prize.
Jameis' Florida State squad will face Auburn in next month's final BCS National Championship Game at Pasadena, California.

Senior Fullback Lonnie Pryor carried the ball five times for 134 yards and two touchdowns on Tuesday night as the Florida State Seminoles (#12 in the Bowl Championship Series standings and the USA Today/Coaches poll, #13 in the Associated Press poll; 12-2) defeated the Northern Illinois Huskies (#15 in the BCS standings, #16 in both the AP and coaches' polls; 12-2) 31-10 in the Discover Orange Bowl.
The game was the first Bowl Championship Series contest involving a Mid-American Conference school.

Jermaine Thomas ran for two touchdowns as Florida State (7-6) scored 20 unanswered points in defeating West Virginia (9-4) 33-21 in Friday's Konica Minolta Gator Bowl. The game was Bobby Bowden's finale as the Seminoles head coach as FSU completed their 33rd consecutive winning season. Bobby's record at Florida State: 389-129-4.
