Here's a 1956 Continental Mark II two-door coupe.  This was during the brief period that Continental became a separate make within the Ford Motor Company family of cars.

It was the final model year for this marque.


Looks almost like a 1959 Pontiac without the widetrack look or the double taillights.

Those are actually your correspondent's favorite Edsels is that for its' abortive final year, they got rid of any trace of the infamous horse-collar grille.

One Of Ford's Best Cars Ever

Here's a magazine ad for the 1956 Continental Mark II, one of the greatest cars ever put out by the Ford Motor Company.

That was when Ford set up Continental as a separate make, with this car set to be priced at the truly upper-level of the automotive market, beyond Cadillac, Lincoln, Imperial, and even Packard.

By 1960, the Continental Division was dissolved and the cars were folded into Lincoln.

Best Looking Edsels---Bar None

Here's a magazine ad for the 1960 Edsel.

They look like ersatz 1959 Pontiacs.  They were also much better looking than the 1958 and '59 models with that horse-collar grille.


If only they designed them that way two years earlier.

It turned out to be an abortive 1960 model year for the car when Ford Motor Company ended production of the Edsel right near the end of the 1959 calendar year.
