SEAHAWKS OVERPOWER PATRIOTS FOR SECOND SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP; KENNETH WALKER III NAMED GAME MVP

At Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, California: 

Quarterback Sam Darnold threw a touchdown pass to A.J. Barner while running back Kenneth Walker III, named Super Bowl LX Most Valuable Player, ran for 135 yards, while linebacker Uchenna Nwosu ran back an interception 45 yards for a defensive touchdown as the Seattle Seahawks dominated the New England Patriots 29-13 on Sunday for their second Super Bowl Championship.  

The Seahawks' Jason Myers kicked a Super Bowl-record five field goals.  

The NFC has now (including the pre-merger NFL) won 31 Super Bowls while the AFC (including the pre-merger AFL) has won 29.

Next year's Super Bowl will be played at Inglewood, California's SoFi Stadium on Valentine's Day and will be telecast on ABC and ESPN.

Seahawks Stifle Niners, Win NFC West Division And Conference's Top Seed

Running back Zach Charbonnet ran for the game's lone touchdown on Saturday as the Seattle Seahawks (14-3) snapped the San Francisco 49ers' (12-5) six-game winning streak with a 13-3 road victory, winning the National Football Conference's West Division title and gaining the conference's top seed with the playoffs now upon us.

The playoffs are set to start this coming Saturday.

Russell Wilson completed 27 of 37 passes for 261 yards and four touchdowns (two of them to D.K. Metcalf) as the Seattle Seahawks (6-1) held off the visiting San Francisco 49ers (4-4) 37-27 on Sunday.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was economical as he completed 18 of 22 passes for 285 yards while running back Raheem Mostert ran for two touchdown and linebacker Dre Greenlaw tackled Jacob Hollister just inches short of the goal line in the final seconds as the San Francisco 49ers (13-3) locked up the NFC West Division title and the top seed in the NFC playoffs by holding off the Seattle Seahawks (11-5) 26-21 in the final game of the National Football League's 100th regular season.

Robbie Gould kicked four field goals, including the game-winner with 3:06 remaining in overtime from 36 yards out on Sunday as the San Francisco 49ers (4-10) posted back-to-back wins for the first time this season by ending their ten-game losing streak (including postseason play) against the Seattle Seahawks by knocking off the visitors 26-23, preventing the Hawks from clinching a playoff berth.

Quarterback Russell Wilson threw for 185 yards and four touchdowns, two to Jaron Brown and one each to Tyler Lockett and Doug Baldwin, while linebacker Bobby Wagner ran back an intercepted pass for a franchise-record 98 yards and another score as the Seattle Seahawks (7-5) overpowered the visiting San Francisco 49ers (2-10) 43-16, assuring the visitors of missing the playoffs for a fifth consecutive season.

Quarterback Russell Wilson threw for 258 yards and a touchdown (to Luke Willson) on Sunday as the playoff-bound Seattle Seahawks (10-5-1) bounced back from an 11-point deficit to top the San Francisco 49ers (2-14-0) 25-23 on the road in the regular-season finale for both clubs.

After the contest, the Niners, who tied a single-season record with 14 defeats (they also finished 2-14 in 1978, 1979, and 2004) dismissed head coach Chip Kelly and general manager Trent Baalke.

Running back Christine Michael, Jr. carried the ball 20 times for 106 yards and two scores for the hosts.

Thomas Rawls, in place of the absent Marshawn Lynch,  ran for 209 yards and scored two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) on Sunday as the Seattle Seahawks (5-5) downed the visiting San Francisco 49ers (3-7) 29-13.

Marshawn Lynch carried the ball 27 times for 122 yards and a touchdown on Thursday night while Russell Wilson 18 of 24 passes for 235 yards and another score (a 43-yarder to Tyler Lockett in the second quarter) as the Seattle Seahawks (3-4) manhandled the San Francisco 49ers (2-5) 20-3 on the road.

Sounders Hold Off Timbers In Cascadia Cup Clash

Obafemi Martins (6') and Brad Evans (PK-42') each scored a goal as the Seattle Sounders---playing in front of a club record 64,358 fans at CenturyLink Field---held off the visiting Portland Timbers 2-1 in a Sunday Major League Soccer contest that was also a Cascadia Cup clash.

Jack Jewsbury scored the Timbers' lone goal in the 58th minute.

The New England Patriots overcame a ten-point fourth-quarter deficit on Sunday and defeated the defending champions Seattle Seahawks 28-24 to win Super Bowl XLIX and their first National Football League championship in ten years.  Quarterback Tom Brady, who was named game Most Valuable Player, completed 37 of 50 passes for 328 yards and three touchdowns (raising his career total to 12, a new all-time Super Bowl record), including the game-winning three-yarder to Julian Edelman with 4:50 remaining in regulation time.  But it was undrafted rookie defensive back Malcolm Bulter, with 20 seconds left, stepped in front of intended receiver Ricardo Lockett and intercepted Russell Wilson's pass to seal the Patriots' fourth Super Bowl triumph.  Both Tom Terrific and New England head coach Bill Belichick have now won four Super Bowls each, the former equaling the record shared by Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana, while the latter now joins Chuck Noll as the only four-time Super Bowl-winning head coaches.

Marshawn Lynch ran four yards for the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter and Russell Wilson threw a fourth-quarter ten-yard TD pass to Paul Richardson as the Seattle Seahawks (10-4) defeated the visiting San Francisco 49ers (7-7) 17-7 on Sunday and ended the visitors' three-year run of playoff appearances.

Richard Sherman intercepted Colin Kaepernick twice, Robert Turbin caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson and Steven Hauschka delivered four field goals (21, 36, 35, and 40 yards) as the Seattle Seahawks (8-4) smothered the home-standing San Francisco 49ers 19-3 (7-5) on Thanksgiving night.

Quarterback Russell Wilson completed 18 of 25 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns (23 yards to Jermaine Kearse and 10 yards to Doug Baldwin) while Marshawn Lynch ran one yard for another score, outside linebacker (and game Most Valuable Player) Malcolm Smith intercepted a Peyton Manning pass and ran it back 69 yards for still another score, and Percy Harvin ran back the opening kickoff of the second half 58 yards for still another TD as the Seattle Seahawks blindsided the Denver Broncos 43-8 on Sunday for the first Super Bowl championship in their 38-year history.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll became the third man (after Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer) to win both an NCAA national football championship and a Super Bowl crown as a head coach.

Here, we see Seattle defensive backs Richard Sherman (who left the game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury) and Kam Chancellor (who picked off a pass in the second quarter) tackling Denver's Julius Thomas.

Remember, Boys And Girls...

Today's Super Bowl is not the first postseason meeting between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos.

From 1977 through 2001, the Seahawks were in the American Football Conference's Western Divsion and, beginning in 1978, they played the Broncos twice each season.  In 2002, the Seahawks returned to the National Football Conference's Western Division.

Seattle's first-ever playoff game came following the 1983 season, as they hosted Denver in an AFC Wild-Card game and the Seahawks dominated the Broncos, who used a rookie quarterback, 31-7 at the Kingdome.

The Seahawks went on to knock off the Miami Dolphins at the Orange Bowl 27-20.  The Dolphins had recently switched quarterbacks and ended up with a rookie as starter.

Seattle's playoff adventure ended in the AFC title game in Los Angeles, falling to the Raiders, who two weeks later, routed the defending champions Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII.

You'd probably be right if you guessed that the rookie quarterbacks who started against the Seahawks in Seattle first two playoff games were, respectively, Hall of Famers John Elway and Dan Marino.

Late FG Boosts Niners Past Seahawks; Settle Prevented From Clinching NFC West And First-Round Bye

At San Francisco:

Colin Kaepernick threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Vernon Davis, while Phil Dawson successfully converted all four of his field-goal attempts, including the game winner from 22 yards out with 26 seconds remaining on Sunday as the San Francisco 49ers (9-4) avenged their September Sunday night blowout defeat on the road with a 19-17 home win over the Seattle Seahawks (11-2) preventing the already playoff-bound Seahawks from clinching the NFC West Division title and a first-round playoff bye.
