At Portland, Oregon:
Kharlton Belmar scored twice (31', 54') on Sunday as Portland Timbers 2 held off visiting Real Monarchs 3-1 in their inaugural United Soccer League contest.
An announced crowd of 3,367 fans showed up at Harry Melro Field to cheer the Portland Timbers' newly-formed USL affiliate top Real Salt Lake's counterpart.
The USL represents the third level of soccer in both the United States and Canada.
Next up for the club that's also known as T2 is a Thursday home contest against the Sacramento Republic, which also happen to be the defending league champions (7:00 PM Pacific Time).
