Stanley Cup Playoffs: Jets Finish Off Wild To Advance In Playoffs For First Time; Flyers, Avalanche Avoid Elimination

The Stanley Cup Playoffs continued on Friday with three games.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

At Pittsburgh:

Third-period goals from Sean Couturier and Matt Read (empty netter) enabled the Philadelphia Flyers to knock off the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 on the road in game five of their conference quarterfinal series.

Michal Neuvirth picked up the victory by saving 30 of 32 shots.

The Penguins, who still lead the series three games to two, can close out the Flyers in Philadelphia on Sunday at 12:00 Noon Pacific Time.


WESTERN CONFERENCE:

At Winnipeg, Manitoba:

Jacob Trouba, Bryan Little, Brandon Tanev, Joe Armia, and Mark Scheifele (power play) each scored once while Connor Hellebuyck saved all 30 shots as the Winnipeg Jets won a playoff series for the first time in the current organization's history by knocking out the Minnesota Wild in five games following their 5-0 game-five home victory in their conference quarterfinal series.

At Nashville, Tennessee:

Gabriel Landeskog and Sven Andrighetto each scored a third period as the Colorado Avalanche avoided elimination by coming from behind to upend the home-standing Nashville Predators 2-1 in game five of their opening-round series.

Andrew Hammond preserved the Colorado victory by saving 44 of 45 Nashville shots.

The Predators, who still lead three games to two, can close out the Avalanche with a game-six road win in Denver on Sunday, starting at 4:00 PM Pacific Time.
