Stanley Cup: Caps Close Out Jackets, Get Crack At Penguins Next; Leafs Force Game Seven Against Bruins

Two games, both in the Eastern Conference, were contested on Monday in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

At Toronto:

William Nylander, Mitchell Marner, and Tomas Plekanec (empty netter) each scored once while Frederik Andersen stopped 32 of 33 shots as the Toronto Maple Leafs squared their conference quarterfinal series with the Boston Bruins at three games apiece following their 3-1 game-six home win.

The series (and the playoffs' opening round) will conclude on Wednesday night at Boston (4:30 PM Pacific Time, NBCSN).  The winner will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in a conference semifinal series.

At Columbus, Ohio:

Alexander Ovechkin scored twice (once on the power play) as the Washington Capitals closed out their opening-round series with the Columbus Blue Jackets four games to two following their 6-3 game-six home victory.

The Caps will take on the Pittsburgh Penguins in an Eastern Conference semifinal series, with Washington holding home-ice advantage.

With opening-round success this year by Vegas and Winnipeg, the Blue Jackets became the only active NHL franchise to have never won a playoff series (they began play in 2000 and this was their third post-season appearance.
