Stanley Cup Playoffs: Blue Jackets, Islanders, Blues, Stars, Sharks Open Things Up With Wednesday Wins

The National Hockey League's Stanley Cup Playoffs opened on Wednesday with five games.

All series are best of seven.



EASTERN CONFERENCE:

At Tampa, Florida:

Seth Jones scored the winning goal with 5:55 remaining in regulation as the Columbus Blue Jackets overcame a three-goal deficit to shock the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 on the road in the opening contest of their conference quarterfinal series.

At Uniondale, Long Island, New York:

Josh Bailey scored the winning goal at 4:39 of overtime as the New York Islanders defeated the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in game one of their opening-round series.



WESTERN CONFERENCE:

At Winnipeg, Manitoba:

Goals in the third period from David Perron and Tyler Bozak enabled the St. Louis Blues to come from behind to upend the home-standing Winnipeg Jets 2-1 in game one of their conference quarterfinal series.

At Nashville:

Miro Heiskenen scored twice (once on the power play) as the Dallas Stars, in their first playoff game since 2016, knocked off the Nashville Predators 3-2 on the road.

At San Jose, California:

Joe Pavelski scored a first-period power-play goal while Brent Burns, Marc Edouard Vlasic, Evander Kane, and Tomas Hertl (empty net) each added a score in the San Jose Sharks' series-opening 5-2 home triumph over the Vegas Golden Knights.
