Stanley Cup Playoffs: Leafs, Caps, Flames Take Series Openers

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are set to continue on Thursday with three games; all faceoff times are Pacific.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

At Boston:

Mitch Marner scored twice (once shorthanded) as the Toronto Maple Leafs seized home-ice advantage in their conference quarterfinal series with the Boston Bruins after their 4-1 game-one road victory.

At Washington:

Nicklas Backstrom scored twice in the first period (once on the power play) as the Washington Capitals raced out to a 3-0 lead, then held on for a series-opening 3-2 home victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.



WESTERN CONFERENCE:

At Calgary, Alberta:

Mike Smith saved all 26 shots while Matthew Tkachuk scored twice (once on the power play) as the Calgary Flames scorched the visiting Colorado Avalanche 4-0 in the opening contest of their opening-round series.
