Ducks Hold Off Visiting Beavers In Civil War Game; OSU Denied Bowl Eligibility

At Eugene, Oregon:

Quarterback Justin Herbert completed 18 of 30 passes for 174 passes and a touchdown on Saturday as the Oregon Ducks (#14 CFP, AP; #13 Coaches; 10-2 overall, 8-1 Pac-12) held off the visiting Oregon State Beavers (5-7, 4-5) 24-10 in the 123rd edition of the Civil War Game.

The defeat ended the improved Beavers' season while the Ducks will face Utah in Friday's Pac-12 Conference title game with the winner going to the Rose Bowl (even though the Utes still have an outside shot at a berth in the College Football Playoff).

At Paradise Island, Bahamas:

Armando Bacot scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Cole Anthony, who tallied 19, hit a driving layup and converted four key free throws in the final 64 points on Friday as the North Carolina Tar Heels (#6 AP, #4 Coaches; 6-1) held off the Oregon Ducks (#11 AP, #10 Coaches; 6-2) 78-74 in the third-place game of the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Payton Pritchard scored 19 points to pace the Ducks.

Ducks Overcome Seton Hall In Battle 4 Atlantis Quarterfinal

At Nassau, Bahamas:

Payton Pritchard scored 16 points on Thursday as the Oregon Ducks (#11 AP/#10 Coaches; 6-0) came back to knock off Seton Hall (#13 AP, Coaches; 4-2) 71-69 in quarterfinal round action in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Myles Powell paced the Pirates with 32 points.

Buckeyes Jump Bayou Benglas To Seize Top Spot In CFP Rankings; Clemson, Geogria Stay In Top Four; Ducks Fall Eight Spots

Ohio State moved past Louisiana State to take over top spot in the College Football Playoff rankings that were released on Tuesday night.

Clemson and Georgia remained in the third and fourth spots respectively.

Alabama stayed at the #5 spot.

Utah replaced Oregon as the top Pac-12 team in the rankings, moving a spot up to #6 while the Ducks fell eight spots to #14 after getting knocked off at Arizona State this past Saturday.

The other Pac-12 team in the rankings, Southern California, inched up a spot to #22.

Vikings Top Grambling In Santa Barbara

At Santa Barbara, California:

Holland Woods scored 20 points on Tuesday while Matt Hauser added 19 as the Portland State Vikings (3-3) defeated the Grambling State Tigers (3-3) 84-74.

DeVante Jackson paced the Tigers with 20 points while grabbing nine rebounds.

This game was part of the Las Vegas Classic.

The Oregon Ducks remained at #11 in the Associated Press men's college basketball poll, released on Monday.

The Ducks climbed up a spot to #10 in the USA Today/Coaches rankings.

Despite sporting 5-1 records, neither Oregon State or Portland received any support in either support (the same goes for 2-3 Portland State).

Louisiana State, Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia remain in the top four in the College Football Playoff rankings that were released on Tuesday night.

Alabama remained at #5.

Three Pac-12 schools are in this week's rankings.

Oregon and Utah stayed put at #6 and #7 respectively.

Southern California entered the rankings for the first time this season at #23.

The Grey Cup Playoffs continued on Sunday with both divisional finals.

EASTERN DIVISION FINAL:

At Hamilton, Ontario:

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats dominated the visiting Edmonton Eskimos 36-16 in the Eastern Division Final to advance to the 107th Grey Cup Final (their first since 2014).

Quarterback Dane Evans completed 21 of 36 passes for 386 yards and a touchdown to lead the TiCats.



WESTERN DIVISION FINAL:

At Regina, Saskatchewan:

Quarterback Zach Collaros led a 107-yard touchdown-scoring drive while Justin Medlock kicked four field goals as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, helped by a big goal-line stand late in the fourth quarter, knocked off the Saskatchewan Roughriders 20-13 on the road in the Western Division Final.

Winnipeg will be playing in its' first Grey Cup Final since 2011.

Last year, the Bombers knocked off the Riders in Regina in the Western Divisional semifinal.



Next Sunday, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Winnipeg Blue Bombers will play in the 107th Grey Cup Final at Calgary, Alberta (3:00 PM Pacific Time, ESPN 2 in the United States).

LSU Jumps Buckeyes For Top Spot In CFP Rankings; Clemson, Georgia Enter Top Four; Ducks Climb A Spot To #6

In the College Football Playoff rankings released on Tuesday night, the LSU Tigers swapped spots with Ohio State and thus supplanted the Buckeyes as the #1 team.

Clemson and Georgia each climbed two spots from last week to #3 and #4 respectively.

After their home defeat to the Bayou Bengals, Alabama fell three spots to #5.

The Oregon Ducks, who were idle, still climbed a spot to #6.

The Utah Runnin' Utes also climbed a spot to #7.

The Ducks and Utes were, as was the case last week, the only Pac-12 teams to make the CFP rankings.

Sooners Hold Off Beavers In Phil Knight Invitational

At Portland, Oregon:

Kristian Doolittle scored 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds on Tuesday night as the Oklahoma Sooners (3-0) held off the Oregon State Beavers (2-1) 77-69 in the finale of the Phil Knight Invitational.

Tres Tinkle paced the Beavs with 18 points while grabbing ten rebounds.

SOUNDERS HOLD OFF REDS FOR SECOND MLS CUP TITLE IN FOUR YEARS

At Seattle:

Kelvin Leerdam (58'), Victor Rodriguez (76'; named game's Most Valuable Player), and Raul Ruidiaz (90') each scored once as the Seattle Sounders defeated visiting Toronto FC 3-1 in Sunday's MLS Cup Final.

The championship was the Sounders second (the other taking place, also at the Reds' expense, in Toronto in 2016).

Jozy Altidore scored the lone Toronto goal in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time.

The Canadian Football League's Grey Cup Playoffs commenced on Sunday with both divisional semifinal games.

C.J. Gable scored a pair of touchdowns while quarterback Trevor Harris threw for 421 yards and a score as the Edmonton Eskinos knocked off the Montreal Alouettes 37-29 on the road in their divisional semifinal game.

The Eskimos will visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in next Sunday's Eastern Division Final (10:00 AM Pacific Time)

In the first College Football Playoff rankings released on Tuesday, the Ohio State Buckeyes came out on top, followed by Louisiana State, Alabama, and Penn State.

Defending champions Clemson were ranked fifth, followed by Georgia.

The Oregon Ducks, at #7, and the Utah Runnin' Utes, at #8, were the only Pac-12 Conference teams to make the rankings.

It was an exhibition match for the Loggers.
