Riders Edge Eskimos To Lock Up CFL West Title

At Regina, Saskatchewan:

Isaac Harker completed 23 of 28 passes for 213 yards while Brett Lauther kicked four field goals (47, 50, 54, 32 yards) as the Saskatchewan Roughriders (13-5) won their first Canadian Football League Western Division regular-season title in ten years by nosing out the visiting Edmonton Eskimos (8-10) in the regular-season finale for both clubs on Saturday.

Here are the matchups for the opening round of the Grey Cup Playoffs, with both divisional semifinals to be contested next Sunday.

EASTERN DIVISION SEMIFINAL:

WESTERN DIVISION SEMIFINAL:

Riders Knock Off Eskimos In Edmonton

At Edmonton, Alberta:

Brett Luther kicked a 43-yard field goal in the final seconds on Saturday as the Saskatchewan Roughriders (12-5) knocked off the Edmonton Eskimos (8-9) 27-24 as they tightened their hold on the top spot in the Canadian Football League's Western Division standings.

Late Pick Six Carries Riders Past Eskimos

At Regina, Saskatchewan:

Defensive End Willie Jefferson intercepted a Mike Reilly pass and returned it 49 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter on Thanksgiving Day (in Canada) as the Saskatchewan Roughriders (10-5) won their third straight Canadian Football League game (and seventh in their last eight) by defeating the visiting Edmonton Eskimos (7-8) 19-12, all but securing a spot in the Grey Cup Playoffs.

Eskimos Knock Off Riders In Regina, Send Saskatchewan Into East Playoffs

At Regina, Saskatchewan:

In Saturday's Canadian Football League regular-season finale for both Grey Cup Playoff-bound clubs, the Edmonton Eskimos (12-6) knocked off the Saskatchewan Roughriders (10-8) on the road by a score of 28-13.

Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly ran for three touchdowns to enable Edmonton to stay in the Western Division when the playoffs open next Sunday while the Riders will travel to Ottawa to face the defending Grey Cup champs in an Eastern Division semifinal.

Here are the match-up for the opening round of the Grey Cup Playoffs, which open next Sunday.

The winners of the respective divisional finals will face off in the 105th Grey Cup Final, to be played on Sunday, November 26 at Ottawa's TD Place Stadium (televised in the United States by ESPN 2).

Riders Run Roughshod Over Eskimos In Edmonton

At Edmonton, Alberta:

In the lone Friday Canadian Football League contest, the Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-4) dominated the home-standing Edmonton Eskimos (7-2) 54-31 for their first road win of the season.

Riders quarterback Kevin Glenn completed 19 of 31 passes for 240 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  The Saskatchewan defense ran back a pair of interceptions for touchdowns.

Quarterback Darian Durant ran six yards for the game-winning touchdown in overtime on Sunday as the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2-10) snapped a seven-game losing skid by knocking off the visiting Edmonton Eskimos (5-7) 26-23 in Canadian Football League action.

In Friday Canadian Football League action, running back Shakir Bell racked up 170 yards from scrimmage and scored his first touchdown of the season as the Edmonton Eskimos (5-4) handed the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders (1-8) their fifth successive defeat 33-25.

Riders Fall In OT To Eskimos

At Edmonton, Alberta:

Quarterback Mike Reilly threw for 336 yards and four touchdowns on Friday night, three of them to Adarius Bowman, while Sean Whyte kicked two field goals, one from 51 yards at the end of regulation and the other from 32 yards out in overtime as the Edmonton Eskimos (1-1) came from behind to upend the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders (0-2) 39-36 in Canadian Football League play.

After their go-ahead three-pointer in overtime, the Esks' defense prevented Riders quarterback Darian Durant from picking up a first down on a third down and short yardage play to preserve the victory.

ESKIMOS OVERTAKE GRITTY REDBLACKS, WIN 103RD GREY CUP, THEIR 14TH

At Winnipeg, Manitoba:

Quarterback Mike Reilly threw touchdown passes to Adarius Bowman and Akeem Shavers while Jordan Lynch scored the game-winning major score with 3:22 remaining in regulation on Sunday as the Edmonton Eskimos came back and won the 103rd Grey Cup Final 26-20 over the Ottawa REDBLACKS, ruining the second-year expansion club's bid to win the Capital city's first Canadian Football League crown since 1976, when the old Rough Riders defeated Saskatchewan for the title.

This championship marks the fourteenth such title for the Eskimos.

At Edmonton, Alberta:

Defensive back Patrick Watkins picked off two passes on Friday, with one of them returned 47 yards for a touchdown while quarterback Matt Nichols completed 27 of 39 passes for 300 yards and a pair of TDs as the Edmonton Eskimos (4-1) smothered the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders (0-6, their first such start since 1979) 30-5 in Canadian Football League action.

Riders Snap Losing Skid, Top Eskimos At Home In Regular-Season Finale

At Regina, Saskatchewan:

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (10-8) ended a five-game losing skid on Saturday with a 24-17 home victory over the Edmonton Eskimos (9-9) on the final day of the Canadian Football League regular season.

The Grey Cup Playoffs will start next Saturday.

Riders Crumble In Second Half, Lose To Eskimos At Home; Cannot Host Playoff Game

At Regina, Saskatchewan:


Kendial Lawrence returned the opening kickoff of the second half 95 yards for a touchdown while quarterback Mike Reilly completed 20 of 30 passes for 260 yards and ran five yards for another major score on Sunday as the Edmonton Eskimos (11-5) locked up second place in the Canadian Football League's Western Division and a home playoff game with a 24-19 road win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders (9-7), who have now lost four games in a row and five of their last six starts.

Eskimos Smother Riders In Edmonton; Saskatchewan Blanked For First Time Since 1986

At Edmonton, Alberta:

John White ran for 192 yards and a touchdown while quarterback Mike Reilly, who completed 14 of 25 passes for 124 yards and a TD, added an additional 106 on the ground as the Edmonton Eskimos smothered the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders 24-0 in Friday Canadian Football League action.  Both teams are now 9-4 on the season.

The Riders were shut out for the first time since 1986.

Riders Drop Regular-Season Finale At Home

At Regina, Saskatchewan:

Jamal Miles ran back a punt 79 yards for a touchdown in the game's final minute as the Edmonton Eskimos (4-14) defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders (11-7) 30-26 on the road on Saturday in the Canadian Football League's regular-season finale for both clubs.

Next Sunday, the Roughriders will host the British Columbia Lions in a Western Division Grey Cup semifinal match.
