NCAA East: Nova, Red Raiders, 'Bama, Gators Gather Thursday Wins

The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's East Regional's opening salvo took place on Thursday with four games.


At Pittsburgh (PPG Paints Arena):


Jalen Brunson scored 16 points as the top-seeded Villanova Wildcats (31-4), with six players scoring in double figures, dominated the sixteenth-seeded Radford Highlanders (23-13) 87-61 in the opening contest.


In the second game, Collin Sexton scored 25 points while John Petty added 20 coming off the bench as the ninth-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide (20-15) held off the eighth-seeded Virginia Tech Hokies (21-12) 86-83.











At Dallas (American Airlines Center):


In the first of two Thursday games in Big D, Keenan Evans scored 23 points as the third-seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders (25-9)  defeated the 14th-seeded Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (28-7)  70-60.




In the nightcap, Egor Koulechov scored 20 points as the sixth-seeded Florida Gators (21-12) had their way with the 11th-seeded St. Bonaventure Bonnies (26-8)  77-62.
