NCAA West: Zags, Buckeyes, Cougars, Wolverines Advance

The first four games of the West Regional of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament were contested on Thursday.


At Boise, Idaho (Taco Bell Arena):

Johnathan Williams scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the fourth-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs (31-4) held off the 13th-seeded UNC-Greensboro Spartans (27-8) 68-64 in the opening game from Boise.

In the second match, Keita Bates-Diop scored 24 points (while grabbing 12 rebounds), Kam Williams added 22, and C.J. Jackson 20 as the fifth-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes (25-8) held off the 12th-seeded South Dakota State Jackrabbits (28-7) 81-73.

Mike Daum led the Jackrabbits with 27 points.





At Wichita, Kansas (Intrust Bank Arena):


In the opener, Rob Gray, who scored 38 points (more than half of his team's total), scored the game winner with 1.1 seconds remaining as the sixth-seeded Houston Cougars (27-7) held off the 11th-seeded San Diego State Aztecs (22-11) 67-65.





#3 Michigan vs. #14 Montana, 6:50 PM (TBS)


In the nightcap, Charles Matthews scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the third-seeded Michigan Wolverines (29-7) held off the fourteenth-seeded Montana Grizzlies (26-8) 61-47.
