NCAA Midwest: Blue Devils, Jayhawks Advance To Sweet Sixteen

The quarterfinal round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's Midwest Regional opened with two Saturday contests.

At Pittsburgh (PPG Paints Arena):

Marvin Bagley III scored 23 points as the second-seeded Duke Blue Devils (28-7), with all five starters scoring in double figures,  overpowered the seventh-seeded Rhode Island Rams (26-8) 87-62.

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski picked up his 1,098th career victory, breaking a tie with former Tennessee women's head coach Pat Summit for the most wins by an NCAA basketball coach.

E.C. Matthews topped the Rams with 23 points.



At Wichita, Kansas (Intrust Bank Arena):

Malik Newman scored 28 points as the top-seeded Kansas Jayhawks (29-7) held off the eighth-seeded Seton Hall Pirates (22-12) 83-79.

Khadeen Carrington scored 28 points and Angel Delgado added 24 (to go with his 23 rebounds) to top the Pirates.
