Gaston's Late Heroics Gain Home Draw For Timbers

At Portland, Oregon:

Gaston Fernandez delivered the equalizer in the 85th minute on Saturday night as the Portland Timbers came from behind to gain a 3-3 Major League Soccer home deadlock with the Columbus Crew, despite ending the contest with ten men (Alvis Powell was shown a straight red card and was ejected in the 34th minute due to a clumsy and hard tackle).  Maximiliano Urruti (5') and Will Johnson (80') were the Timbers' other goal scorers.  Federico Higuain scored twice (14', PK-45'+5) and Ethan Finlay once (81') for the Crew.  The Timbers have now gone 22 straight games without losing a league game at home, now tied for third longest in MLS history.

The Timbers will take on the New York Red Bulls next Saturday evening at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey (4:00 PM Pacific Time, ROOT Sports Northwest).
