NCAA Tournament: Cal Poly, Vols Advance

The opening round of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament concluded with two games played on Wednesday.

In the opener, Chris Eversley scored 19 points as the Cal Poly Mustangs (14-19) became the first team in 59 years with at least 19 defeats to win an NCAA Tournament game, 81-69 over Texas Southern (17-15), despite 38 points from the Tigers' Aaric Murray.  Now coming off a victory in their NCAA Tournament debut, the Mustangs will head into a Midwest Regional Friday contest against top-seeded---------and undefeated----------Wichita State in St. Louis.

In the nightcap at UD Arena, Jarnell Stokes scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Tennessee Volunteers (22-12) outlasted the Iowa Hawkeyes (21-13) 78-65 in overtime.  The Vols will take on the Massachusetts Minutemen, the Midwest Region's #6 seed on Friday in Raleigh, North Carolina.
