NCAA East: UConn Huskies Wear Down Cyclones; Spartans Outlast Top-Seeded Cavs

The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's East Regional took place on Friday with both games contested as Madison Square Garden, in New York City.

In the opener, the first NCAA Tournament contest to be played in New York since 1961, DeAndre Daniels, who grabbed 10 rebounds, scored 18 of his 26 points in the second half as the seventh-seeded Connecticut Huskies (29-8) held off third-seeded Iowa State (28-8), 81-76, despite a career-high 34 points from the Cyclones' Dustin Hogue.

In the nightcap, a 24-point, 10-rebound performance from Branden Dawson carried the fourth-seeded Michigan State Spartans (29-8) to a 61-59 victory over the top-seeded Virginia Cavaliers (30-7).

Michigan State will take on Connecticut in Sunday's East Regional final for a berth in the Final Four (11:20 AM Pacific Time, CBS).
