NCAA South: Lumberjacks Stun VCU; Stanford, Kansas, UCLA Advance

16 more games were played on Friday---four of them in the South Region---as the second round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament continued.

At St. Louis:

In the opening contest at the Scottrade Center, Chasson Randle scored 22 points as the tenth-seeded Stanford Cardinal (22-12) knocked off the seventh-seeded New Mexico Lobos (27-7) 58-53.

In the second contest, Andrew Wiggins scored 19 points as the second-seeded Kansas Jayhawks (25-9) outlasted the #15-seeded Eastern Kentucky Colonels (24-10) 80-69.  The Jayhawks will take on Stanford on Sunday.

At San Diego:

In the opening contest at Viejas Arena, Desmond Haymon scored on a four-point play with 3.6 seconds remaining in regulation, then hit a critical three-point shot in the overtime period as 12th-seeded Stephen F. Austin (32-2) collected their 29th consecutive victory by knocking off the fifth-seeded Virginia Commonwealth Rams (23-10).  Jacob Parker paced the Lumberjacks with 22 points.

In the nightcap, Jordan Adams scored 21 points (and grabbed eight rebounds) while Norman Powell contributed 15 as the fourth-seeded UCLA Bruins (27-8) took control in the second half and outgunned the 13th-seeded Tulsa Golden Hurricane (21-13) 76-59. The Bruins will face Stephen F. Austin on Sunday in San Diego.
