NCAA East: Harvard Knocks Off Cincy; Spartans, UConn, 'Nova Advance

The East Region of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament saw four second-round games contested on Thursday.

At Spokane, Washington:

In the opening match at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, Wesley Saunders scored 12 points as the #12-seeded Harvard Crimson (27-4) knocked off the #5-seeded Cincinnati Bearcats (27-7) 61-57 for their second-ever NCAA Tournament victory.

In the second contest, the fourth-seeded Michigan State Spartans (27-8) ousted the #13-seeded Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens (25-10) 93-78. Adreian Payne scored a career-high 41 points to pace the Spartans, who will face Harvard on Saturday in Spokane.

At Buffalo, New York:

In the opening East Region contest at the First Niagara Center, Shabazz Napier scored 9 of his 24 points in overtime as the #7-ranked Connecticut Huskies (27-8) outlasted the St. Joseph's Hawks (24-10) 89-81.

In the nightcap, Darrun Hilliard scored 16 points and JayVaughn added 13 as the second-seeded Villanova Wildcats (29-4) cruised past the fifteenth-seeded UW-Milwaukee Panthers (21-14) 73-53.  The Wildcats will face Connecticut on Saturday in Buffalo.
