LeBron James scored 31 points while J.R. Smith converted eight three-point shots en route to a 28-point performance as the Cleveland Cavaliers took the opening game of the NBA's Eastern Conference finals 97-89 over the Atlanta Hawks on the road on Wednesday.
Jeff Teague paced the Hawks with 27 points. Atlanta suffered a blow when DeAndre Carroll suffered a knee injury in the game.
