TIMBERS DEMOLISH HAPLESS GOATS, WIN WESTERN CONFERENCE TITLE

At Carson, California:

Diego Valeri scored twice (16', 29') and assisted on Rodney Wallace's goal in the 34th minute on Saturday night as the Portland Timbers laid claim to the Western Conference's regular-season championship (and the conference's top playoff seed) with their 5-0 demolition of Chivas USA in the Major League Soccer season finale for the struggling Goats.

The Timbers will play in a Western Conference two-game semifinal series against the winner of this coming Thursday's opening round match (which will involve two of these three clubs:  Seattle, Los Angeles, and Colorado).  The Timbers will open their conference semifinal two-game series on the road next weekend.
