At Pittsburgh:
Russell Martin hit two home runs while Francisco Liriano pitched seven strong innings as the Pittsburgh Pirates (in postseason play for the first time since 1992), defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-2 on Tuesday night in the National League Wild Card Game as the 2013 Major League Baseball Playoffs got under way. Marlon Byrd got the scoring started for the Pirates in his first postseason at bat (after 1,250 regular-season games) with a solo home run in the second inning.
The Pirates will travel to St. Louis for Thursday's opening game of a best-of-five divisional playoff series with the Cardinals.
