RED SOX FINISH OFF TIGERS, WIN AMERICAN LEAGUE PENNANT; FACE CARDINALS IN WORLD SERIES FOR FOURTH TIME

At Boston:

Shane Victorino delivered a grand slam home run in the seventh inning as the Boston Red Sox defeated the visiting Detroit Tigers 5-2 on Saturday night to win their 13th American League pennant four games to two.  The Red Sox will face the St. Louis Cardinals in the fourth World Series encounter between the two clubs, with the Redbirds winning in seven games both in 1946 and 1967 and the BoSox sweeping St. Louis in 2004 for their first world title since 1918. The Sox have won their last eight World Series games (they swept the Colorado Rockies in 2007). The Series starts at Boston's Fenway Park this coming Wednesday.
