Joan Fontaine, the actress who won an Academy Award for her portrayal of a naive wife in the 1941 Alfred Hitchcock-directed motion picture "Suspicion," passed away on Sunday morning in her sleep at her Carmel, California home at age 96.
Miss Fontaine also starred in the title role in "Rebecca," which won the Oscar for Best Picture of 1940, and which was also directed by Mr. Hitchcock.
Joan was the sister of fellow Oscar-winning actress Olivia de Havilland.
