NCAA West: Buckeyes Outlast Wildcats; Shockers Finish Off Explorers

The West Regional semifinal round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament took place on Thursday with two game played in Los Angeles at the Staples Center.

In the opener, three of the 17 points LaQuinton Ross scored came on the game-winning shot with two seconds remaining as the Ohio State Buckeyes (29-7), seeded #2, edged #6-seeded Arizona (27-8) 73-70.  Deshaun Thomas led the Buckeyes in scoring with 20 points while Mark Lyons tallied 23 to pace the Wildcats.

In the nightcap, Malcolm Armstead scored 18 points while Carl Hall added 16 as ninth-seeded Wichita State (29-8)  proved too much for #13-seeded La Salle 72-58 (24-10).

The Shockers, who reached the Elite Eight for the first time since 1981, will battle Ohio State in the West Regional final on Saturday at 4:05 PM Pacific Time (CBS) for a trip to Atlanta and the Final Four (something WSU last made in 1965).
