Stanley Cup Playoffs: Caps, Islanders, Stars, Sharks Win Series Openers

The Stanley Cup Playoffs continued on Thursday with four games.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

At Washington:

John Carlson (power play) and Jay Beagle each scored a goal while Braden Holtby stopped all 19 shots as the Washington Capitals blanked the visiting Philadelphia Flyers 2-0 in the opening game of their best-of-seven conference quarterfinal series.

At Sunrise, Florida:

John Tavares scored a goal and dished out a pair of assists, including one to Kyle Okposo, who scored the go-ahead goal in the third period as the New York Islanders who scored three unanswered goals in the second and third periods in their conference first-round series-opening 5-4 road victory over the Florida Panthers.



WESTERN CONFERENCE:

At Dallas:

Jamie Benn scored a goal and had a pair of assists while Kari Lehtonen stopped all 22 shots for his second career playoff shutout as the Dallas Stars overpowered the visiting Minnesota Wild 4-0 in game one of their conference quarterfinal-round series.

At Los Angeles:

Joe Pavelski scored twice (a first-period power-play tally and the game winner 17 seconds into the third period) as the San Jose Sharks came from behind to upend the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 in the opening contest of their opening-round best-of-seven series.
