Ray Harryhausen, Cinematic Special-Effects Innovator, R.I.P.

Ray Harryhausen, the animator and special-effects wizard who found ways to breathe cinematic life into the gartantuan, the mythical, and the extinct, passed way in London, where he lived, on Tuesday at the age of 92, his family announced.

Often working in a small group, or by himself, Mr. Harryhausen created and photographed many of the most memorable fantasy-adventure sequences in motion-picture history.

Amongst the films that Ray helped made magic happen were "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms," "Jason and the Argonauts," and "One Million Years BC."
