SKC Knock Off Timbers On Road; Portland Falls Out Of Playoff Places

At Portland, Oregon:

Krisztian Nemeth scored the only goal of the match in the 83rd minute on Saturday as Sporting Kansas City knocked off the Portland Timbers 1-0 on the road in Major League Soccer play.

Goalkeeper Tim Melia made six saves to preserve both the victory and the shutout.

The defeat, coupled with San Jose's 1-1 home deadlock with Vancouver, dropped the Timbers to a tie for the six and final Western Conference playoff berth (with the Timbers and Earthquakes level on points and wins, San Jose has the superior goal differential).  Portland has three regular-season games remaining, San Jose has two.

The Timbers next game will be on Wednesday October 14 at Sandy, Utah against Real Salt Lake at 6:30 PM Pacific Time (ROOT Sports Northwest).
