In the 54th minute on Wednesday, Fanendo Adi converted a penalty kick as the Portland Timbers delivered an all-but fatal blow to Real Salt Lake's playoff chances with a 1-0 road victory in Major League Soccer action.
Fanendo's spot kick became possible after Portland's Lucas Melano was fowled in the 53rd minute in the RSL penalty area by Jamison Olave, who was ejected via a straight red card, forcing the hosts to finish the match with ten men.
The Timbers, whose post-season chances received a major boost with the victory, will visit the Los Angeles Galaxy at Carson, California for a contest this coming Sunday at 4:00 PM Pacific Time (Fox Sports 1).
