Both American League divisional playoffs series concluded on Wednesday.
At Toronto:
Jose Bautista hit a three-run home run during a crazy seventh inning as the Toronto Blue Jays took advantage of three Texas Rangers errors during that inning to win the fifth and decing game of their divisional playoff series 6-3 to advance to their first American League Championship Series since 1993, becoming the third team to come back from losing their first two games at home to win a best-of-five Major League Baseball playoff series.
At Kansas City:
Johnny Cueto pitched eight solid innings of two-hit ball, retiring the last 19 batters he faced, while Alex Rios delivered a go-ahead two-run double and Kendrys Morales smacked a three-run homer as the Kansas City Royals smothered the visiting Houston Astros 7-2 to end the visitors' Cinderella season and won their divisional playoff series three games to two and advanced to their second successive League Championship Series.
The Royals and Blue Jays will open the American League Championship Series on Friday night in Kansas City. The Royals came back from down three games to one to upend Toronto in seven games to win the American League pennant in 1985 en route to their only World Series championship, beating the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games (again, after trailing three games to one).
