Four games were played on Friday as second-round action in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's West Regional continued.
At Kansas City, Missouri:
In the first of two games played at the Sprint Center, Marshall Henderson scored 19 points as the #12-seeded Ole Miss Rebels (27-8) knocked off the fifth-seeded Wisconsin Badgers (23-12) 57-46. It was the Rebels' first NCAA tourney win since 2001.
In the second contest, Jerrell Wright scored 21 points (converting three foul shots in the final half-minute along the way) as the thirteenth-seeded LaSalle Explorers (22-9) blew an 18-point halftime lead but managed to upset fourth-seeded Kansas State 63-61(27-8) despite a 17-point, 12-rebound performance from the Wildcats' Jordan Henriquez.
At Dayton, Ohio:
In the opening contest played at University of Dayton Arena, Deshaun Thomas scored 24 points while Sam Thompson added 20 (to go with his 10 rebounds, both career highs) as the second-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes (27-7) took care of #15-seeded Iona (20-14) 95-70.
#10-seeded Iowa State (23-11) eliminated #7-seeded Notre Dame 76-58 (25-10). Georges Niang scored 19 points to pace the Cyclones as the Fighting Irish played their final basketball game as a member of the Big East Conference (they will join the ACC next season).
