The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament commenced with two games played on Tuesday at Dayton, Ohio:
In the opener, Jeremy Underwood scored 19 points while Bruce Beckwood added 16 (to go with his nine rebounds) as North Carolina A&T (20-16) held off pesky Liberty University (15-21) despite 22 points from the Flames' Davon Marshall and 21 from his teammate John Caleb Sanders, whose left-handed layup as time expired, which would have won the game, just glanced off the glass.
Next up for the Aggies, a trip to Lexington, Kentucky and a second-round Midwest Regional encounter---as the #16 seed---against the Louisville Cardinals, the regional's top seed---and the tournament's top overall seed on Thursday at 3:50 PM (TBS).
In the nightcap, in a battle of prospective #11 seeds, Matthew Dellavedova scored 22 points as Saint Mary's (28-6) defeated Middle Tennessee (28-6) 67-54 to earn a trip to Auburn Hills, Michigan for a Thursday Midwest Regional encounter with sixth-seeded Memphis (11:45 AM, CBS).
All times Pacific
